View Full Version : Man United - Cash Crisis???
Guderian 25-07-2006, 14:50 Does anyone here have any ideas (or care less) about Man Utds inactivity in the transfer market?? This letter to Football365.com echoes my thoughts exactly.
But are we skint or just waiting?
What is becoming painfully obvious is that the legacy of the Glazer takeover is now becoming a little clearer for those of us who were in the 'Let's wait and see his plan, after all he's a successful businessman' group when the takeover occurred.
The World Cup has just catapulted some previously unknown talent onto the world stage, Italy has self-destructed, resulting in a glut of household names on the market and Chelsea seem to be happy with their new toys for the time being, thus not scaring everyone off with inflated bids.
What are United doing during this time of feast? Nothing. They are holding out for extra cash for RVN before making any moves, while the other big clubs swoop. You have to ask yourself, if this is what it's come to, does it mean that every time United need a new player we must sell an existing one to finance the bid? If this is the case, what will happen in the next 24 months when the likes of Giggs, Scholes and the Neviller start slowing down like Roy Keane did last season and find the pace of the premiership a little above them? They will either retire or go on a free leaving a multi-million dollar hole to be filled.
Ferguson too seems to have lost his balls somewhere along the way. A few years ago, he was marching into boardrooms demanding money, now he's being wheeled into interview rooms and spinning that the club's future is in safe hands with the likes of Fletcher and Richardson.
Those who were willing to wait and see what the Glazers' plan was before condemning the takeover must now be fearing the worst.
Any thoughts?
Come on Angelus, come out of hiding.
You got this from football365 last time, and both will more than likely be incorrect.

i believe the only 2 offers they have made this season is for kiszak and carrick
carcrash 25-07-2006, 18:49 The result of the appeals from Juve, Ac milan ect should be announced this evening. I imagine man u will be going for some of those players
Agent Gypo 27-07-2006, 12:34 European giants have already made moves for players of the relegated Italian clubs. Cannavaro and Emerson have moved to Madrid, and it seems Man Utd (and other English clubs) have been slow to take up the opportunity so far.
Man Utd are about to lose a guaranteed 20 goal + striker (Van Nistelrooy) to a major European rival (with rumours still abound of Christiano Ronaldo's imminent departure), and the youth players they have can hardly fill Man Utd fans with confidence.

Are these the same youth players that beat Celtic 3-0 last night at Parkhead?

Brown, Evra, and Scholes are hardly youth players, and even the most ardent Man Utd fans must surely admit that players such as Richardson, Miller, Eagles and Fletcher are nothing more than average squad players for a club of Man Utd's stature.
The current Celtic squad isn't great, with the best players desperately looking for a way out. So much so that Stillian Petrov, easily their best player, is considering joining Portsmouth........
Agent Gypo 27-07-2006, 12:47 Adding to that, Celtic have won just one of their last 7 friendlies.
Most competent teams would have no trouble beating them.
Guderian 27-07-2006, 13:51 I was talking about Ben Foster, Johnny Evans, Danny Simpson (right back), Lee Martin (not the same!) and Rossi.
Agree with you about Fletcher, although still harbour hopes for Richardson.
The point I was trying to make is that is 3/4 years time, I think we will be ok.
I do worry about the immed future though!
Robbie Loving 27-07-2006, 13:55 although still harbour hopes for Richardson.
he looked great in the last game of last season again charlton

As much as it kills me to say it.. I agree with you mate.
These players cannot win us the premiership back, with ruud gone- saha wont fill the gap I can promise you that, and if ronaldo goes as well... its like rats leaving the sinking ship.
Where are our 'big name' signings this summer- because I'm sorry Carrick does not fill me full of happiness and Defoe certainly wont.

Still "waiting and seeing" re the Glazers Angelus??
Dont you think its a coincidence that we agreed a fee for Carrick as soon as the deal was done for Ruud?
IE Sell to buy?
Strikes me that Fergie has one hand tied behind his back finance wise.

Financial crisis, I would say most definitely Guderian. We're used to most clubs running with deficits but I don't know of any with one of 630 million like Man U. In recent years it's been obvious that things haven't been quite as a rosey as you would believe even before the Glaziers arrived. You had Chief Exec. David Kenyon jumping ship to Chelsea something I always thought strange and the fact that when they bought Rooney off us they could only stump 12 million in cash for the deal: the rest was on the drip over 12 months or so and this nearly scuppered the deal because we wanted something like 19 million straight off. Ferguson I would say most definitely now has his hands tied behind his back in the transfer market but he forgot his principles when after the Americans took control he agreed to stay on after being a vociferous opponent of the takeover bid.

I think your right matey
I think we are solidly in the sh-ite at the moment :(

I dont understand why fergie has gone for carrick when he could have had a lot of talent from the italian league, especially the players at Juve.
I'd still take vieira over carrick at the moment.
I think you might be right mate- its not looking good.
Agent Gypo 31-07-2006, 10:52 What I've seen of Viera in the last 2 seasons convinces me he's a player in decline.
Carrick is a different kind of player, younger, and a very good buy.
However, Man Utd still need an aggressive ballwinner in the middle of the park if they hope to challenge for anything other than the FA Cup and League Cup.
While I rate Saha, I doubt whether he and Rossi are going to put away the number of goals Van Nistelrooy can.
