Tony Blackburn has been suspended from his radio job after airing Cliff Richard records against company policy. Blackburn played 2 back to back songs by Cliff Richard and prior to that he had torn up a warning note from his boss on air.

Stop the world I want to get off!

If it was Will Young or Westlife I could understand but Sir Cliff?! WTF?! Sure his music may not be to everyone's taste but he is an excellent singer IMO and a right nice bloke to boot, unlike these teeny bopper 10 a penny pansy boys who flood the charts with their inane identikit warblings, I've heard better voices coming out of the Robin Hood pub near us on Saturday night Karaoke!

Personally, I can't stand Cliff Richard. But the approved playlists are what's wrong with radio, and the reason I prefer to load up a shoutcast (http://www.shoutcast.com) stream into Winamp (http://www.winamp.com)

Oh and on browsing the shoutcast site, you may be surprised how easy it is for anyone with a fast internet connection to set up their own streaming broadcast over the 'net. Of course, you should remember that broadcasting music without the necessary licence is illegal

Got to agree with Andy - just a publicity stunt for a flagging career and radion station.

Maybe a stunt, although i disagree that Cliff Richard should be banned from the airwaves because he is 'nt trendy to the younger generation.
Most radio stations followed suit and refuse to play his music.
Cliff has brought many years of entertainment to this country and should be recognised for it, and personally with the rubbish that is allowed to be broadcast i could ban 50% of it.
Radio 2 still plays his records and is again the most reliable radio station in the UK.
Back to Mr Blackburn though he did break the rules and even he has to stick to them though he should have been given a warning and not booted.
Blackburn is still a great presenter and he will be snapped up by some other station who undoubtably will still not play Cliff Richard records.
RADIO 2 SHOULD TAKE HIM ON.

Update.
You could do better by listening to Sheffield Live who go live 24 hours a day from July 1 to July 28 on 98.7 FM.
It is a voluntary radio station and will play some great music throughout the month.
You can make it a success by listening and posting your views to the stations website which is www.sheffieldlive.org or email the station at thedrum@sheffieldlive.co.uk
Your support will be appreciated, and please pass on the station to your friends around the world.

I wish that would happen when people play anything by Robbie Williams or other boy band, former boy band members

Agreed :D

I hate all these new fangled teeny bopper bands equally, despite the fact that my mate thinks I'm a Westlife fan cos I bought their version of Barry Manilow's "Mandy".... :loopy:

Tony Blackburn suspended over cliff

It's obviously a publicity stunt. And it's worked well - all the papers are covering it today.

However, I'm not sure why. Can't they see that the whole row will be resolved as soon as Tony comes back from his summer holidays? :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:

I heard on the news today he's been re-instated due to public outcry, and Cliff Richard has millions of fans so i can imagine the response this all got.

Personally i can't stand Cliff Richard, but it was Tony Blackburn's show and i do like the idea that DJ's can play the music they like, so good for him i say.

Chris.

I think Tony Blackburn IS Cliff Richard. You never see them together!!
Cliffy just pumps up his belly, throws on an even worse wig and goes to work - no one knows any better. EXCEPT US!!
MU-HA-HA-HA-HA!
