View Full Version : Is Warnock gonna lead the Blades right back down?

After reading the posts from the porkers' thread I thought this controversial little number would be worth posting. Is it a case of dodgy overpriced signings, an aging squad lacking any pace and an inexperienced manager at the top flight or are united set to take the prem by storm through sheer guile, determination and team spirit?

i think they might struggle. time will tell. for all thier superiority last season i still think S*FC will finish above reading. surprised at thier signings, the only one i would personally have bought is sommeil.

i agree that colin may be gone by christmas if things go pear shaped

Yes, we'll probably go down.

But at least we're up there!

Enjoy Southend and Colchester, won't you?

God i hope so.. :hihi:

The Blades new season will all be about preserving premiership status.... Dont run b4 you can walk.... id give utd 7/10 for staying up after what they did in the championship last season... Utd have been the so near yet so far team for the last couple of seasons, now that they are there i cant see Mr W be willing to throw it all away that easy....:suspect:

Let's wait until the end of next season & see who is going down, our squad is getting better & Warnock is bringing 2 or 3 more players in,hopefully Koumas is one of them & who have Owls bought???????

Yes, but who have the Blades bought???? I'm not familiar with any of the Blades' signings as being (to quote my pink friend above) 'world beaters' or indeed 'Premier League beaters'. I'll go out on a limb and say I would be jealous of Koumas (great, young player) as a signing but the rest I don't feel are owt special at all. And as you guys are so quick to point out, we WON'T be playing Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea et al you WILL be. Are what you've got good enough???

It took me AGES to think of that one! I'm thoroughly glad you enjoyed it!!

Whilst I am still awaiting a 'big' signing, it's too early to work out whether Warnock's made the right decision in the players he has signed so far. At least he hasn't put all his eggs in one basket and I'd like to think that come what may, when the transfer window reopens in mid-season, we'll have some money left (even if it is in order to get us out of ****!).

It's nice to have the Blades being active in the transfer market and though I'm not a fan of the likes of Rob Hulse, it makes a refreshing change for United to be signing players from the likes of L*eds (and not the other way round. Admittedly, we've paid over the odds but hey, that's another argument).

I still have a gut feeling that we'll beat Liverpool on the opening day of the season, but then we won't win another match for quite a while.

The league starts to show its true picture around Christmas. Why worry about relegation till at least then?

Or maybe things are that staid and lifeless at S6 (well, playing Southend hardly whets any football fan's appetite, does it?) that it's better to look across the city at what's happening in S2.

Plenty.

Thing is, what should he do? Reading and Watford are hardly signing mega-wage players either, are they? In fact, any team promoted to the Premiership - with one or two minor exceptions - is going to be faced with the same dilema.

Do we literally break the bank and sign players we cannot afford?

Or do we play it safe (for now at least) and try and strengthen the side within our financial limits?

Too many teams have gone up, done the former and not only found themselves back whence they came, but even further down the league. (Wednesdayites might like to recall there is a thread on here entitled Will The Owls Ever Recover - there's a little pointer if required.)

As I've said, I too wish for a major signing, but I know the Bramall Lane board aren't going to wreck what is 6 to 8 years' hard work just to 'live the dream'. Their prudence might give the Blades a longer stay in the top flight than many predict.

And if not, then at least the club won't be held to ransom by money-grabbing journey-men signed on ridiculous contracts.

You seem to distracted with the blades "assualt" on the prem than your own team fella. is that cause there are very few wednesday posters or because your a troll? either way.......

few points for you....

Warnock has previously managed in the top flight with the mighty notts county.

what "dodgy" overpriced signings are you referring to? they are all PROVEN championship players who have cost a bit of money. whether they can make the step up we shall see.

and which "aging" squad members with no pace are you referring to?

the only few i can maybe think of are HMS who wont feature much, Short who id be surprised will play at all. Unsworth, Lucketti

but they can all easily be replaced with younger faster replacements if the need arises

Lets be right, the one thing that is guaranteed with united in the Premiership.

There will be plenty of goals at all the games

Blades to stay up for me - no surprises there then. Reading and Watford have yet to really get into signing anyone, Villa at sixes and sevens, Middlesborough with a new boss, Charlton with a new boss, Fulham not pulling any trees up.

There is no reason why United can't stay up. I agree with Ousetunes - we will beat Liverpool, Warnock will want to stick it to them again after we did them in the cup and Phil Thompson and co. went off on one.

But, I think a loss at Tottenham, then a point at Fulham. Blackburn - we will get at least a point.

Barnie41 - total optimist, we will stay up, but I bet it will be a close run thing.

I resent being called a troll. There is nothing wrong with living under a bridge (although I do tend to have network problems), admittedly the goats are a bit of a pain but on the whole I enjoy it!

As always Robbie a well balanced and constructive argument. Makes a refreshing change compared to some of the other numpties on here, who seem intent on provocation...United ARE sh*t, btw.

Can't...resist...:)

its not just the blades, there are plenty of owls on here wanting to cause arguements. but when you have a brother who supports the owls, you come to have the arguements in person (before he threatens to beat me up lol)

I think Santa will take old Colin when comes to town. i.e. he has until Christmas.

To the tune of 'Santa Claus is Coming To town'

He’d better watch out, he’d better not cry,
He’s got a big snout and he lives in a sty
Colin’s boys are going back down

He's making a list, checkin it twice,
Buying crap players at a cut price
Colin’s boys are going back down

The Porkers up in Sowland
In Colin they believe
Like Santa he will have the sack
For a gift on Christmas Eve

He’d better watch out , he’d better not cry,
He’s got a big snout and he lives in a sty
Colin’s boys are going back down

I think the Blades will do either what a lot of people fear (finish bottom) or end up about 8th position. There will be no panic stations next April, they'll be either well clear or doomed. Hopefully, the adrenalin will kick in and turn average players into good players. Premier pride, lets see a good ride. The Owls? I'll guess they'll finish 12th.

Let's face it there's not much to worry about when you've taken Chelsea,Liverpool and Arsenal out,the rest are easily beeatable as Wigan proved. The first game last season Wigan held Chelsea until the ref put the whistle in his mouth to blow full time and Drogba goes and pops one in.

I don't think McCabe will sit by and watch us go back down.

what game did you watch? it was crespo who hit a 20 yard screamer in the 89th minute, nothing to do with the ref putting his whistle to his mouth of even drogba

How many times can i vote for blades scum "going down down down".....sung to the song "feeling hot hot hot".
Gonna luv seeing Warncock spittin his dummy out next season, and will put money on that he dont pick an argument with fergie, pearce, big sam or anyone else north of cornwall.
