View Full Version : Would you let a trainee cut your hair?
slimsid2000 23-06-2004, 14:28 I sometimes go to Bogart's barbers shop on Hillsborough where they do free haircut if you let their trainee cut you hair.
I am in two minds about whether or not this is a good idea. On the one hand it is free and one of the qualified staff does tidy up any mistakes at the end. On the other hand she is only a learner and does tend to be a lot slower than the qualified barbers.
What do other people think about this? Would you have your hair cut by a trainee? Also, does anybody know of any other barbers in Sheffield that do this so that if I decide to do it again I would have a greater choice of barbers to go to.
Brings to mind the Python sketch wherein Michael Palin plays a guy who was forced to become a barber by his mother after he exhibited a terror of hair and the human scalp:
"I'll just cut your hair...cut, cut, blood, spurt, spurt!"
Yea go for it. I was once a trainee and we know what we are doing trust me lol. Nah id say its just as good as a normal cut go for it. If you dont like it dont do it again!!
And they'll give you a bag full of ice to keep your earlobes in on the way to the hospital!
I wouldn't have a problem with it, after all they're not going to get the practice are they if people won't let them near their noggins purely cos they're trainees.
Classic Rock 23-06-2004, 15:31 I once went to RCAT to have a hair cut by a trainee. It took them 3.5 hours to do it (wash, cut and blow) and I was charged about £3.
I had time on my hands and they did a reasonable job as they were monitored by the trainer all the way through, but it was slow, slow, slow. I'd not bother again.
I will not name names, but once when I went to get my hair cut the trainee was watching the 'professional' do my hair, they messed up the top left corner and it grew back sticking up all the time. I never went back, I never went to a barbers again and I cut my own hair now.
Who would you rather trust? Trainee or 'professional'?
Get some clippers and shave it yourself!
I have in the past and I would again. They are never going to learn unless someone lets them practice on a real person.

Or just get the missus to do it!

That's a pity - like all trainees, they steadily improve :)
My son had his done down Ecclesfield last week by a trainee and it looks really good.
I would go but I want to keep mine long.
Yodameister 23-06-2004, 17:40 I'd go for it, but they probably couldn't go far wrong with "Number 4 on back and sides, and trim on top". S'pose trainee might take a longer time though, usually im in and out in 10 minutes!
Sam Miguel 23-06-2004, 18:16 They'd have bit of a problem: I haven't got any.
I get my mum to do it usually, although, my sister is a trainee, and she did a pretty good job.
kittykat 25-06-2004, 20:55 youre best off cutting it yourself at least then you get what you want and not someone elses impression of what you want. Even if you show them a picture they always do it shorter for some reason. Youd think they wouldnt want to as the shorter they do it the longer til you come back.
Would I let a trainee cut my hair?
Course I would, I they can find it.:(
