I walk everywhere (except up hills)

Go for long walks with my little boy in his pram

Which is how i lost 2 stone in three months

Its free, and with the recent hot weather its been lovely to top up my tan

I've just upped the amount of walking I do, stopped using the car so much and also eat less.

Years ago I swore by the 'Natwest Plan Diet' which is a means of losing weight that's made posisble because your bank won't let you have enough money to eat...:-)

Seriously, I started walking more when my GP told me that I should take more excercise to bring down my slightly elevated blood pressure. On my last contract I worked out that I waslked about 1 and a half miles a day in Leeds and abot half a mile a day here in Sheffield. Total of about 2 miles a day. Certainly helped me lose some inches and some millimetres of mercury form the BP!

Personaly I use a mix of weight training, walking, swimming and boxing - but the only thing that will really KEEP you fit is to find something exercise-wise you enjoy doing!

I never used to be transported anywhere in Sheffield, apart from by my own two feet. On Sundays I used to go for random long walks around Sheffield.

Since I've moved home, I've probably put on weight, simply for the reason that the town I live in is significantly smaller than Sheffield. I walk the dog a few times a week, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

Walking is probably the best and cheapest way to exercise. However, I live in a hot climate so walking isn't always pleasurable. Therefore I swim, two and a half kilometres three times a week. It works very well for me and my BP is that of a sixteen year old, I am sixty.

I walk everday down my path to the car....it has its perils.The cat sometimes sits on the path which i have to walk all the way round to avoid.When i reach the car i then have the final task of lifting my arm up whilst holding a bunch of keys to unlock it.....in the car at last, it must be time for a biscuit!!

Nice one Lestat......but i can only do that if i dont eat any pies!

Personally I swim twice a week, do 2 hours of jitsu twice a week (during term time, only once a week for the summer). Try to use the hotel gym 2 or 3 times a week, where I do a mix of cv and moderate weights. And control what I eat (so no hotel cooked breakfasts :-( )

Like someone already said, you need to find something you enjoy and fits easily into your lifestyle/routine, otherwise you won't stick to it.

I do the following in a good week:

Run 4 miles or more at least 3 times a week;

Swim for 40 minutes twice a week;

and, go for a brisk walk at lunch time usually for 20 minutes.

Keeps the weight from piling on and I'm seeing the benefits as my beer gut is gradually shrinking :D Also, thinking of purchasing a heavy duty punch bag to de-stress after a day at the office!!!

Dick, the punchbag is a sterling idea.

It is the ultiimate stress toy- knock hell out of it for half an hour and all your troubles will melt away. And you can get em for 50 notes from that boxing shop on t'moor.

Go running, there isn't a more effective way to get fit in my opinion

I used to be such a lazy so and so... Didn't really exercise much, other than a swim once a fortnight, which is no way near enough as much as I should have been doing for a lass of my age!

Recently joined the gym... Go everyday for varying times, as I fit it around my daily schedule... For instance on Tuesday I worked out for an hour and a half constantly, as I was intending to meet my boyfriend later on in the evening... Then yesterday I did just 20 minutes, as I'd rushed from work to get to the gym, had to meet my boyfriend so we could go and view a flat, and consequently had to plan a very short and non-sweaty routine hehe :)

I'd advise you go to the gym amhudson119... If you choose Fitness Unlimited, you get to use Hillsborough's facilities, Don Valley's, Concord Park's and Ponds Forge's... You get everything in, so if you wanted to do a class, you've already paid for it... Same with the swimming and the health suite etc... If you have a job with a big company, you could also get corporate membership, which reduces your fee a few quid (It all counts :))

I originally decided to join after receiving a gorge pink bikini as a gift, and in order to look great in it, I knew I had to do something to counteract the effect of takeaways and my weakness (garlic bread).... With just 12 days to go before I go away on holiday, I had my bikini on and I showed it off and everyone has said that they can see a difference in my physique and skin tone etc :D I'd say it is definately the best thing I've done for ages:D

Right, me and my notes are taking a trip down the moor at the end of the week to see what I can pick up. :thumbsup:

Since the creation of this thread last June, I now visit the gym twice a week, and have a set programme. Also, I swim regularly.

The new Crook Log Sports Centre will be open fully near you and me next month....lol

Seriously....do you have a pushbike...there are loads of places round where you live where you can ride off and on road.

Or you could join a gym!

EDIT: I should have read page 2 of this thread before posting....silly me! ;)

I've recently taken up jogging but i've not been able to go this week because my shin is knackered again :(

Back to work tomorrow so i'll be cycling again anyway! :clap:
Unfortunately cycling alone isn't enough to keep me in shape so i'm waiting on this dodgy shin to heal.

I ususally use Lamorbey - I can't stick the other two in the borough - both at Bexleyheath (where we have to walk over from Splashworld to CL Leisure Centre), and at Erith, with Riverside and the leisure centre - at least at Sidcup, both the pool and the equipment is in the same building!
