I hope they don't ban them but it wouldn't surprise me, the HSE tends to get its panties in a bunch over this kind of thing and will probably urge teh Government to ban them in a knee jerk reaction.

God thats awful, bet they were terrified.

That can't have been nice, but I don't see it as an excuse to ban bouncy castles. This bouncy castle to be fair was a huge thing, so many safety checks must have taked place beforehand.

well it is different, and it is bigger

however it is an inflatable and bouncys are barely ever tethered down...in my experience anyway

very scary, sure the artical said it had a roof i can't imagine the sheer panic of been in there. awful. much larger than a bouncy castle so doubt they ban them but you never know.

well with our government n all these daft protestors we have in our country who protest for the daftest of things it wouldnt surprise me if they were banned but i dont think they should be. i agree it was awful what happened n a freak accident. but if everytime there was a freak accident everything got banned i think we would have no entertainment or much of a life left :|

It was Maurice Agis's "Dreamspace" (http://www.dreamspace-agis.com/webesp/index.htm).

It wasn't a bouncy castle though - it was a sculpture and people were inside it rather than on it. They must have been injured by being thrown to the hard ground - if it was a bouncy castle you'd get a soft landing if you wree on it, but no such 'luck' with this.

Once went in something similar to this in Clifton Park with some 'gifted and talented' science kids from school. It was called 'Colourscape'. I am just imagining the feeling we'd have experienced if it had 'lifted off'.:(

We'd never have known how far up we were.

Yes! That sends shivers down my spine - ugh! There could have been people in this thing that were hurled right up into the air.

Has everyone seen the video? It's scary!:o

The BBC report has been updated on that link since being first posted:

2 people died and 12 were injured in the incident!

well tbh i think itd be worse on a castle, it suddenly flies up, all those on it can get shot out something like 10 - 30 foot onto the ground

ouch :P

You'd get a chance to get a grip on something though, and know you were flying through the air at least! I bet these people didn't have a clue what was happening, just a face full of primary coloured plastic!

Is there owt to grip hold of on a bouncy castle? I've never been on one :(

It's not a bouncey castle, it's an inflatable that you walk around inside.

Yeah, its not a bouncy castle, it is inflatable but there are loads of rooms all colourful inside.

The video is awful, if you watch it, you can imagine how so many people were injured.

We should wait for the HSE to report, but its tethers may have been loosened when it rained over the weekend...then a gust of wind and up it goes..:(

i know

BUT im just being devils advocate.............inflatable walk in works of art and bouncy castles are both public inflatables, and some bouncy castls arent even fastened down, if one was to fling up suddenly you wouldnt have owt to hold onto and would prolly be flung off it, if it was 30 foot in the air youd come back down with an almighty thud, and not even on the inflatable maybe.
i just think with the kneejerk reactions the government and pc brigade have i wouldnt put it past em.
theyve already banned conker trees, apple trees cos of a couple of accidents, and dont they advise safety glasses now when playing conkers? i heard somebody mention lol

I've always used Sheffield Bouncy Castle Hire, and they have always taken safety seriously. The castles are fastened down really well, and before they leave you they run through a long list of do's and don't's.

I went to Colourscape too, amazing place (I took photos - here (http://www.sumption.org/life/20060618colourscape/)), but I can imagine it would be terrifying if it took off.

I'm sure some basic safety checks must have been neglected, or it must have been sabotaged, because it wasn't exactly howling gales yesterday, certainly not windy enough to easily dislodge something that size if it had been properly moored.

BTW the BBC article can't seem to make up its mind whether the place is called Dreamspace (as it says in the article) or Dreamscape (as the alt tag on the picture says).

I'd heard that the sun had heated the air inside the castle to the point where the whole thing became a giant hot air ballon...

Add a bit of wind and some shoddy tethers........
