View Full Version : After much consideration and thumb twiddling i'm going to live in Dublin
.... I've decided that I'm going to join my other half in Dublin for a year.
I've been registering with several recruitment agencies online in my search for a job but I can't help thinking I'd stand a better chance if I was actually over there in person rather than here. I'd probably be able to last around 6-8 weeks with the money I have (and thanks to the brilliant idea of selling my car in January I've very little debt on my shoulders).
She's only been gone a week and I miss her more than anyone could imagine. I sincerely think I'm doing the right thing. I've been in the same job for 8 years and think I'm ready for a change as well as a change of venue.
I'm planning to go out for a few days to see some recruitment agencies like Adecco and Kelly Services etc so fingers crossed I can find something to entertain me for a year.
What do people think? Would you do the same?
:)

And there was you wanting to call me sicknote... does this mean i can call you partypooper!? ;) :hihi:
amandakm 22-07-2006, 21:53 nearly twenty years ago i gave up a good job to follow my then boyfriend to Peru where he had been posted. We've been together ever since, married, kids etc. Never regretted it, wouldn't have regretted it even if we hadn't stayed together.
I think it's very sweet. I'm sure she'll be happy to see u there.
Imagine all the things u can do and discover about Dublin together.
If you think its the right thing to do it usually is. Congratulations and good luck!
SupraSteve 24-07-2006, 21:54 Good lad, go enjoy yourself :)
redrobbo 24-07-2006, 22:20 Long distance relationships are difficult, though by no means impossible, to sustain.
You simply have to ask yourself the following question "Where do I want to be?" I suspect Dublin wins. But whooahh there D2J, before you book the next flight to the Emerald Isle, Hayley also has to ask herself a similar question..... where does she want you to be? Now, if you're both sure you want to be together, even if it means upping sticks and crossing the Irish Sea.... you can still keep in touch us lot left behind via SF!
PS Bags nobikejohn and I come to visit you first in Dublin! Please! :hihi:
BruciesBabe 25-07-2006, 08:03 Hey big man - I think you should go for it - you know where your heart is and that is with Hayley.
I couldn't be away from Adam for that length of time.
You only live once - go ahead and live it to the full.
Know that I love you to bits and will miss you (even though we haven't seen each other in far too long!).
Keep in touch honey.
xx
alchresearch 25-07-2006, 11:04 What kind of work are you looking for in Dublin?
Jimbob1989 25-07-2006, 11:16 You have to come to a forum meet before you go
the week started so slowly but today I was informed that I can take a 12 month break from work (unpaid).
So when I land back in Sheffield next September I still have a job available to me.
I move out there all being well on 2nd September. A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders!
I'm looking forward to an interesting year ahead.
Thanks everyone :)

I think D2J has forgotten more about Forum meets that you'll ever know! He used to be quite the meet-and-greeter, back in the olden days. Eh, Deej? :hihi:

Oh those were the days. Even you attended ;)
I know! Aaah, I was so much younger then. Happy days....:D
You will have a little leaving soiree won't you? Just to get a taste for guinness and magners of course. Purely for research purposes. hic
Banjo Griner 26-07-2006, 13:14 Good move - when you're in the Temple Bar area, make sure to eat in Gallagher's Boxty House whenever possible, it's the best. I'd move there just for the 'craic' down Grafton St. All the best...

What kind of work are you looking for in Dublin?
Any, I've enough money to last a couple of months so I'll spend my free time job hunting.
Temping etc :D
alchresearch 26-07-2006, 19:34 If you need a scooter to get around Dublin, visit Scooter Island on Usher's Quay. Tell Mark that Andy sent you and I'm sure he'll sort you out a good deal!
happyhippy 27-07-2006, 16:49 Good luck pal, and if you get the chance, visit Clark's in Glasnevin, not too far from Croke Park (if memory serves), my mate's uncle owns it! Nice local bar; you'll love the black stuff ;)
Slan
liam4mail 27-07-2006, 18:42 I would not move from England to Ireland for all the money in the world. I am finally getting out of here next month. But, I am the first to admit I am a bit biased about Ireland at this stage. :D
If your love is there, then go for it. I know how tough distance can be and nothing is more important than love. ;)
If you need anything drop me a PM!
Good luck and best wishes for your move and your future. :)
