Apparently they are very popular in London (but so are jellied eals and George Galloway). What do think of the idea?

Do you think it is a little macrabre and unhealthy to go on such tours or is it a legitimate tourist activity after so many years have passed.

I am still uncertain either way.

I went on one, it was a good laugh, so I hope it's not seen as unhealthly! If nothing else, you get to see bits of London you don't normally do, whilst listening to the guide tel the story. It's not like there's anything gruesome still at the crime scenes, it's almost like a history lesson, made a bit more interesting by seeing where it all happened.

Yes I think I agree with this. History can often be bloody and this is definately part of London's history.

I guess after 100+ years it is acceptable.

Since so much of history is based on slaughter and cruelty and everyone goes on tours that include such sites in Rome etc there is really nothing wrong with it. If they happened in living memory of the events that would be a different matter.

George is gorgeous and dry slapped the Yanks so there.:hihi:

I am an Amateur Ripperologist and have been on a few tours when visiting London, though I prefer to go to the sites on my own. I have a lot of books on the subject and find it fascinating. It certainly is gruesome but I feel by studying the facts, somehow the 6 victims will always be remembered, as they rightly should be. As to the perpetrator, only 2 facts are certain, he was obviously a mad/evil bas***d and he is now dead!

If I ever get to London, I would love to go on one of these tours. They've had Haunted Hollywood (http://www.starlinetours.com/tour_22.asp) tours for years. They're very popular and always sold out. I'll bet the Jack the Ripper tours are, too.
