Does anyone know why a large rocket was driving through Sheffield this morning (10 to 8 - pulled onto A57 in x-pool) ?
It had Starchaser on the side and was on the back of a lorry. Very surreal site when you're just about to start driving into work and still 1/2 a sleep.

That was the Starchaser Nova rocket on it's way to Tapton School. You just saw the British Space Project!
Take a look - http://www.starchaser.co.uk
Ahhhh ! Must of had problems getting down Darwin then, as it was heading away from the school when I saw it.

Why was it going to Tapton? Rocket Science a GCSE now?
Here's the reply I got back from Starchaser...
Thanks for your email message, the NOVA rocket is visiting a school today in Sheffield as part of the Starchaser Education programme. This is the largest rocket to be flown from British soil and is one of our record breaking rockets which is used to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Haha I went in this morning - throug hthe back entrance - everyone was walking around the school going 'did you see the rocket?!!!!' and I had NO idea what they were talking about. FInally went to see and became very bemused. It sat there all day...and then...that was it
I think the younger students got to go and havea talk or something, but as I'm not taking science, I didn't get a look in. Anyway, it was huge!
Yes the rocket was at Tapton today. U saw it going away from the school because they missed the entrance first time round and had to go around the block again.
It was impressive but not as big as i expected it to be, Though it did take up a lot of parking. The lower school kids got a presentation about it, and then the y6's came from the feeder schools for the afternoon. It was also there this evening for people to go and see.
Sorry guys but i didn't think about putting it on here.

Since this topic has come up I would encourage anyone who is the slightest bit interested to visit the Starchaser site (http://www.starchaser.co.uk) and get involved in the programme.
The Yanks have just beaten us to it (1st private craft to the edge of space) but they did it with $30M from the co-founder of Microsoft - Starchaser are doing it with good old fashioned British style IMO and deserve all the support they can get - this is a real genuine first step in the direction of future space travel - these guys are the Wright Brothers of our day.....
Join their club - you get lots of free goodies and you'll be supporting the British Space effort...
