View Full Version : Which accents make you go weak at the knees?
sayloubay 21-07-2006, 12:09 I've just been to the shop on my lunch break and a cockney guy said 'Ello darlin' to me as I walked in. I love this accent on a guy! I also have a thing for a thick Bradford accent, which my mates find a bit weird!
Which accents does anyone else like?

An Irish or French accent on a women does it for me.
The cockney accent makes my toes curl...
... but a deep throaty Scottish accent - a bit Sean Connery....
BrainThrust 21-07-2006, 12:12 Stratford :drools: and any accent from up in the north west like Carlisle.
I was already hormonal today, stop it!

sayloubay 21-07-2006, 12:16 I absolutely love an irish accent in men!
I used to like the Irish accent but it just makes me think of Ronan Keating now which isn't good.
I think it's really nice on a girl though.

Most deffinitely, if anyone else out there listens to Moyles - Joceyln's voice.

the-lioness 21-07-2006, 12:21 I love the Sunderland accent on a man, also the Yorkshire naturally. Very Northern Irish is sexay - not the Southern tho!

StarSparkle 21-07-2006, 12:39 I absolutely adore the Welsh accent in men - mmmm, it's way beyond sexy. Nicky Wire..... drool.....
Also like an Irish accent if it's not too harsh, mainly because the men who go along with it tend to be dark, handsome and charming. I'm a complete pushover for Irish charm! :P
And for some reason, I'm also quite partial to a Mancunian accent :)
StarSparkle

What about Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud? Sometimes I can't understand what she says though!
Can't say I pay enought attention to Girls Aloud to even know who she is. She wont sound any better than Joceyln though.

Well, I'm not in the army but I have a manc accent and loads of tattoos. Do I make the grade? :D
On a woman, I love the French accent. There's a new girl just started in our office and every time she says anything, you can see all the blokes turn to jelly. It's great.
On a man, Mancunian accent all the way, although if I had to change it, I'd probably change to Canadian. Not sure why though.
mjlacey21 21-07-2006, 13:00 Definately GEORDIE  phwoar!!!

You wouldn't think geordie if you had spent your whole school life stuck with a bunch of geordie chavs. now that is NOT sexy!

Classy lol!
Just because blokes are in the army or have tattoos doesn't mean they beat up women!
I like wife beater vests on a guy though - does that count?
I love the Brummie accent - it reminds me that however stupid the things I say sound, I'll never sound as thick as them!
So true :hihi:
the-lioness 21-07-2006, 13:07 Ur right SayLoubay - Macca and Hoba are the nicest guys on here ;)

Oh leave them, it's just a fantasy they have, I'm sure they wouldn't be so interested when he came home from war with both legs missing or post-traumatic stress syndrome.
sophiec1979 21-07-2006, 13:11 i think its got to be the irish accent for me too. mind you, im not a fan of a really strong northern irish accent, i prefer the lilting eire accent.

Are you willing to sign up to the army? :hihi:
I don't think the army would have me. I'm colourblind and am fairly certain I am not allowed to join any of the forces.
I could buy a uniform though.:hihi:

I know u mean well Nick but if I was in love with him then it wouldnt even be an issue - unless they had turned into a raving loonie and miss-treated me or kids
Accents for me have to be out of the ordinary, Yorkshire does nothing for me. My partners southern so he's a tad more interesting than the local lads but then South African (not Afrikaans), American/Canadian and on occasion Australian really get me.
I used to go out with a gorgeous S.A fella and I think that's what did it for me.
 Aww, now I'm blushing as well.
Just don't get any ideas, Scouse trumps Manc - always ;)

I have to disagree with ya there, I can't stand the SA accent I think it horrid (plus I stuggle to understand it).
irish or australian also,
i would deliberately avoid any man with an american, cockney or brummy accent though
Just don't get any ideas, Scouse trumps Manc - always ;)
You wish mate. You're a poor mans Mancunian at best! :hihi: You wish you had half of the history and culture that Manchester does!
I'm Southern and I love the Southern accent! Especially on a man. And especially Cockney!!
I also love the Yorkshire accent - especially Barnsley and Leeds.
And an American accent can also make my head turn! Liverudlian, Geordie, Scottish and Mancunian are also lovely.
Welsh, Irish and anything from the South West are 'orrible IMO!! :gag:

I have found a pic but I don't know how to put it on here so I shall just have to keep him all to myself for now :)

No, I'm not letting you get the last word here.
Manchester: world's first industrial city. There you go. We started the Industrial Revolution. You're welcome.

Well, looks like I'm off to an army-surplus store this weekend.

The list of people who will be lined up against the wall and shot come the day of the revolution:hihi:

Yep, you get yourself down to the army store and pick up some khaki uniforms then get back to me on Mon and let me know how you look in em. :hihi: Do they sell machine guns there too? I always find that adds to the whole effect. :D
Being a frog, i tend to like any accent, English is such a great and sexy language! Not overly keen on the Glaswegian accent though, probably because even after 5 years in the UK, i still struggle sometimes to understand them.
Sexiest accent for me is Welsh for men and i like scouse for women.

Got to disagree! I know I'm going to get into trouble for this, being from Liverpool and all, but...
I really like a soft Manc accent - makes me go wibbly
But general non-specific north west of England works for me to some degree. Oooooh and North Welsh too.
Irish is lovely, but there are far too many ugly Irish lads that think it automatically makes women want to get in their pants :gag:

With a capital 'T' missy, with a capital T.
:loopy:
shorty558 21-07-2006, 14:16 Got to be a really strong masculine irish accent. Also an understandable jamacian accent makes my knees go weak. I have a friend with a broad barnsley accent she makes me chukkle with every sentence she says.
Ooh, you sonofa....:hihi: Can't let me get the last word can you?
I can let you. But I'm not gonna!!!

sayloubay 21-07-2006, 14:22 i like scouse for women.
I am a scouse girl but since I have been in Sheff for the past 7 years I have totally lost it, partially because I had to change it because no one could understand a word I said when I arrived!. I speak proper Yorkshire now. :)

Me too! When I first came here I had to speak with what felt like a REALLY posh accent just to get people to understand me.
It all comes back when I'm angry, tired or drunk though...or talking to my sister on the phone!

I have the habbit of picking up the accent of where I live, to some extent - certain words, pronunciations etc.
Living in London and now here has somewhat killed my accent, at least to my ears. My friends think it's still there, but you know that thing about not recognising your own voice, I suppose that's me.
It comes out when I speak to me Da' though, or (literally) when I'm crossing the Penines on route home. I think the fact it comes out so early is the impending arrival of that place on the horizon though.
;)

Yer I think I speak quite posh now coz that's what I had to do! When I go home though everyone takes the p*** coz I sound really Yorkshire. I'll be sat in the pub and they just repeat everything I say coz they think it's funny! Very annoying!
Mine also comes back when I'm drunk or arguing or with my mates from back home. :)

Nobody could understand me when I came to Sheffield...it wasn't just because of my accent was strong, more the language i used.
I remember after my frist day of uni saying to everyone "Alreet then marra's, I'm gannin yem to have some bait". They all just looked at me, haha.

So that's three of us then.
I like the way it comes back though, it's almost a security blanket thing. An attachment to somewhere else.
Maybe I'm just a hopless romantic though?

I know you said Northumberland earlier, just wondered what breed that made you ;)

None of the above, I'm Northumbrian. The style of speak is called pitmatic, derived from the men down the mines. A lot of the slang relates to pit terminology.

Fair enough, and cheers for the explenation!
I like girls with a Scottish accent....I like lots of accents but I find strong accents on a lass a bit of a turn off to be honest.
I could never go out with a lass with a strong Brummie or Scouse accent. No offence to any Brummies or Scousers mind ;)
Or a nasally Manc accent ;)

One of my exes is from County Durham and he always used to say 'Why Eye Sarah' to me but I never knew what it meant?
I could understand him apart from when I went back home with him and he was chatting to his friends and famliy. They could have been speaking Martian for all I knew
I was on the phone today to a Welsh lady and what a sexy accent she had, I had to go and pour cold water on myself when I had finished that call
furry_chick 21-07-2006, 16:39 Why the Yorkshire accent of course!
squeakyclean 21-07-2006, 17:58 I love an american accent in men (except for the deep south)
I am quite partial to the geordie accent too.
It's dead funny when a bloke from the north east says to his wife/girlfriend:
"How man woman man". Haha. Must be dead confusuing to people who don't know the accent.
fozzybronze 21-07-2006, 18:14 On women: -
Love: Southern Irish, not the Northern, as its is too grating ("so it is"), and an Edinburgh accent, as well as a soft Geordie.
Hate: Brummie, Scouse and Cockney
and an Edinburgh
I was Edinburgh a couple of weeks back...there again next weekend. I can't even order my drinks in a pub when a girl behind a bar with an Edinburgh accent starts yaking to me...I get in a right fluster! haha.
MovingOn 21-07-2006, 23:10 One guy I work with has a thick Irish accent - it's absolutely knee-weakening.
Italians can sound smoulderingly sexy and most of the time they have the looks to go with it too.
The French accent can be hot in the grips of passion but can wane very quickly during a row.
The Sicilian accent is similar to Italian, well it would be wouldn't it?
However; having my 'ubby saying, "Oi, thee, fancee a cuppa!" is probably the best sound in the world.
:)
Clemantined 22-07-2006, 04:20 What about baaaaaaaaaaaaansley accents? Rubbish aren't they.
Edit: I wrote this at the same time as Craig777 thread!
Awwww my husband is from barnsley so I have to say it is sexy!!!
Why do you think I've been trying to lose mine for the last 20 years?
yam alroight am yam? :hihi:
i have a fondness for a variety of accents, each one lending itself to a different sentiment/impression..
for instance, i love welsh accents on girls, because they just sound so matter-of-fact and brutal (for want of a better word)..
i love the essex accent, because my first love was from brentwood and thus that accent brings back fond memories..
but at the moment i am absolutely in love with the real southern drawl of deep south america.. calleigh from csi: miami - helllllooooo nurse!
on the flip side, i can't abide the scouse accent, and its close relative; the stoke accent :shudders:
Irish is also sexy. Think Fran Cosgrove  fittie
Damn! you beat me to it... Defo Fran Cosgrove... Fit is an understatement... mmm mmm!
"Change ya number... change ya life... get Angels number!" words to that affect anyway! i think!? ;) :hihi:
A soft sexy Liverpool accent too... i've a mate who has one... i could listen to him talk on the phone all day... *swoon*
sexy Liverpool accent
an oxymoron, surely?
:D
My favourite is Geordie!
A man who speaks Geordie to me is welcome to anything! (How could I refuse??)
South African & Irish
I'm soooo with you on this one! Call me strange, but there's something I like abou the Welsh accent too.
RunningFree 30-01-2008, 07:47 I've just been to the shop on my lunch break and a cockney guy said 'Ello darlin' to me as I walked in. I love this accent on a guy! I also have a thing for a thick Bradford accent, which my mates find a bit weird!
Which accents does anyone else like?
I love a scouse accent on a girl....really sexy.
weenireeni 30-01-2008, 08:04 I love Geordie, Irish and Scottish. Ahhhhhhhhhhh wish my OH had the Geordie accent :hihi:
I have to say that I love the geordie accent as well, the only one I really dislike is a strong southern/cockney one.
i have to say it would be the south african accent
and irsh but not the strong northen irish accent.
Welsh, South African and Australian, but it has to be coming from the right kind of guy, i'm not saying I get all hot and flustered over Alf from Home and Away or anything!
Irish accents sound lovely:love:
The girl on the Orange pay as you go top up site
neeeeeeeeeek 31-01-2008, 12:26 Bristol.... Fwarrrrrr....

cressida 31-01-2008, 12:38 I like posh accents, but I really like the Irish accents - they say nobody loves like an Irishman - ummm hold that thought
I think the Italian and French accents are sexy too
