Stayed there loads and loads of times.

Depends if you're going by car or train really.

If we go by car - M1, A64, A1237 for North York, we stay in a little B & B on Marygate off Bootham. Try Treetops on 01904 658053. It's a small, tidy, family-run place five minutes from Bootham Bar and the city centre. You can walk down to the River Ouse and to Lendal Bridge.

It has its own car-park (which saves you at least £7 a day) and is a doddle to get to and from.

I think last time we stopped there it cost about £65 for the night.

If you're going by train you have a number of places nearer to the station, such as the Punch Bowl public house (top of Micklegate/Blossom Street) which is also a good place to stop - although the area can get a little rowdy late at night, whereas Treetops is in a quiet backstreet!

PM for more info.

(I ain't called OUSEtunes for nowt!!)

I went to the TravelInn, and it was surprisingly really nice. It's in an old courtyard, with mostly old buildings converted into a hotel. Has it's own carpark and is withing easy walking distance of the town centre. Also only a few minutes walk from train station too..

I stayed in the travel inn or travel lodge, cant remember which. Just down the road is the edinburgh pub, thats a bit grotty but the hotel was spot on. I've since heard there's a weatherspoons attached to it now, but I do recomend it.

I'm from York so if you need any other info, feel free to PM me.

There's loads of B&Bs on Bishopthorpe Rd which is about 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Like Ousetunes said, a lot of these B&BS have car parks so you don't have to pay for parking (which in York is a bit of a swine). There are also a few places along the Mount.

Hope you enjoy your stay. Say hi to my mum for me!

There are some decent B&Bs in the Bootham area of the city, about 10 mins walk from the centre. It's near the football ground (now bizarrely called KitKat Crescent) but as the season doesn't start for a few weeks yet you should be OK.

I always found it strange that you could never tell if the Minstermen were playing at home as there were hardly any fans! (I've actually been to Bootham Crescent [as it was] three or four times.)

In Sheffield you know immediately if there is a match on. In York, it seemed quite apparent that people had other, better things to do than go to watch (fourth or third division) football!!

And quite right too. Ye Olde Star Inne, Thomas's, Spread Eagle, Blue Bell to name but four.

Oh Ousetunes, you lucky person! Living in the most beautiful City in England! I fell in love with York the very first time I went as a kiddie-winkle, I even spent my honeymoon there on Nunthorpe Avenue, Farthings Hotel in 1974. I believe its still there. The other hotel we stayed in was on Bishopthorpe Road, but its now an Old Peoples Home, so we may be returning there soon!:hihi:

Myself and mrs ang to be stayed at the Lady Anne Middleton's Hotel a few years ago before it got expensive.. it was very lovely I have to say!

And its not far from attractions such as the Jorvik as well- its about a 5/10 mins walk.
