Walk out of the job youre in, move to Leicester and get a job as night security driver for NCP.
Its a 12 hour shift, four day on and four day off job that has you driving from Leicester to Loughborough, Nottingham, Northants, and finally to the car parks around Leicester. Youll be transporting up to 50, 000 pounds each night in a little, flea-ridden van through the counties of Nottingham, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire along quiet, winding country roads at high speeds in all weather with one eye constantly on the rear view mirrors in case someone decides it might be a nice idea to hold you up, shoot you and take the cash.
Then add a boss who thinks that all his employees are thieves and has a fetish about hiding reciepts so he can accuse them of stealing huge amounts of cash each week, involving the police and internal security.
THEN add other more "Routine" functions such as patrolling the car parks, throwing knife wielding drug abusers and vagrants off the car parks even though they werent really doing anything more than putting customers off using them.
Add to that, endless hours sitting in front of a CCTV system that covers all the car parks in all the cities mentioned and....
God , I miss that job.

you're never too old to train for a new career.

it sounds "sad", but, write down a list of all the things you consider yourself good at...then look at it and start thinking of jobs that would benefit from them...or give the list to a mate and let em suggets things

if you like any of em, look into it....i was looking into teaching until i learnt you HAVE to have a degree (bastards.....shortage my arse!).....then go nuts!

I felt the same way, resigned in 2000 when i had my second child (childminder bills would have made it pointless to continue) and when my daughter started school in 2004, i started full time college to get my qualifications .... now Ive just completed my 1st year on a 3 year degree course at uni training for something i really want to do! ... and Im 37 .. soon to be 38!

Have a look here:

You put in the kind of things you like doing and are good at, and it suggests jobs you could do and gives you info on them.

Look in 'Jobs Available' on this forum, you will see 'Who wants to work at a local Premiership Club'

Thought that may be up your street.

Only temporary positions tho' 12 months that is!!:hihi:

it depends what kind of teaching you want to do, i beleive that you can do a european computer course, which then leads you to be able to take a teaching course of about 1 or 2 year's duration, and then you can teach night classes and adults, and they are crying out for teachers for basic literacy and numeracy, and you can be qualified to teach this without a degree... (i looked into it about a year ago, and that was the situation then) :)

As you have office skills, why not register with SESSA - the Teacher and Supply Clerk agency for the Council and no. 1 supplier for school support staff. You get to work in many different schools, you get to choose *if* you want to work or not. You get to meet a wide range of educated people. Also, pensionable. £7.77 per hour, paid weekly. Flexible and varied, and at least you are not stuck in the same old office every day. They are often advertising on the Council jobs website. You must be CRB checked however, but that is a simple process. Whatever you decide - good luck.

Why not try psychiatry or something similar like teaching in nursery classes. From my experience - that's where all the intelligent and stimulating people are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd rather have a temporary job for 12 months , seeing Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc at The Lane, than 24 months minimum seeing Southend, Burnley, Plymouth etc etc at hillsborough. ;)

Blondie, just go to a college, grab a guide thingy, and look through it, you'll find summat you like the sound of, and just put up with work for another year.

(my apologies to anyone in the forum whos from Southend, Burnley or Plymouth, there all beautiful really)

You think that's bad?

I know how you felt as I was in the same position. The worse thing you can do is drift in a job you dislike. Research your options well, take your time to make the right decision but do something.

I now work as a profssional make-up artist and certified skin care consultant. It took me a while to make the decision but I don't regret it. I trained whilst retaining my day job so maintaining my familiy's security. I am now setting up a training company so am continuing to expand what I do.

Good luck

Ruth
