View Full Version : TV catchphrases
Remembering all the old game and quiz shows brings to mind all the old phrases used that I recall people using during ordinary day-to-day conversations. I still hear 'Rock on Tommy', (cringe).
Does anyone on the forum still use any phrases or even lines from programmes?
Nope.... Not even "nice to see you, to see you, NICE!" that Bruce Forsyth does.
There are also a couple of carpet fitters who do the, 'to you, to me' routine.

Yodameister 23-06-2004, 09:20 Panda, since reading that "You can't beat a bit of bully" has become my new catchphrase.
Useful for so many occasions!
custardcream 23-06-2004, 10:46 .....Come on down!!
Yodameister 23-06-2004, 17:35 "It does exactly what it says on the tin"
that phrase is used all the time everywhere. Its obviously a really useful phrase to have taken hold so quickly.
mega_monty 25-06-2004, 22:10 "Can I have a "P" please Bob"
"Don't have nightmares, do sleep well"
:D Cook must have been on that programme for 20 years and he still looks no different.
I loved the phrase that Rod Serling used to introduce many of 'The Twilight Zone' stories....
"Respectfully submitted for your perusal ...."
And then would follow a brief intro to the story to follow. Excellent!
Joe
custardcream 26-06-2004, 16:29 Who lives in a house like this?

Or there was "Don't touch the pack, we'll be right back!"
I preferred the Dolly Dealers myself. ;)

I must admit that I do the "ehhh... errrrrrr" noise when ever anyone answers a question wrong that I ask them
You see I'm one of those people whose brains are full of useless information that nobody else in the family knows, and I pride myself on being a bit of a well, clever sod if you'll pardon the language :P
mega_monty 26-06-2004, 22:23 I had the "ehhh... errrrrrr" noise on a WAV file on the pc and set up up so that when you made a mistake in windows it went "ehhh... errrrrrr"
LoopyLou 27-06-2004, 10:53 the noise of the clock in countdown when time is running out.
bit difficult to type a noise - so hope you know the one i mean!
Bullseye beats them all ..

trivia question.....
on crackerjack who was the guy with all the sad catchphrases
jump over a dolls house
crush a grape
etc.
can anyone remember his name or any more of his C**P sayings
:loopy:
I think it was Stu Francis.
Wasn't it "Wreck a dolls house"?
And wasn't "Rip a tissue" one of them also?

And not forgetting: "ooh I could wrestle an Action Man"
Yodameister 02-07-2004, 16:05 Does anyone remember Paul Merton ribbing Angus Deayton because his catchphrase had become "in what way?"
Which was surely one of the worst catchphrases ever!
