Coudln't beleive they had the camera van out yesterday in the heat - actually felt sorry for the guy operating it stuck in side! DancingDave 18-07-2006, 14:35 I've just seen this, it must be a big fire as the smoke is visible from Abbey Lane by the Golf Club eyretile 18-07-2006, 14:36 poor chap:shakes: owlsman 18-07-2006, 14:36 Its on the portland industrial estate nr the test centre, as fozziebear says. fozziebear 18-07-2006, 14:37 Its one of the small units that repair cars. simondjuk 18-07-2006, 14:41 just been on the Radio Sheffield travel news and the bushes are on fire just off the Parkway. Phew:rolleyes: Rachel1991 18-07-2006, 14:43 I was wondering what all that smoke was coming from, it looks quite bad actually. It doesnt seem that far from where i live (Lower Manor just off Prince Of Wales) I took a photo, ill put it up in a minute eyretile 18-07-2006, 14:44 No, :( its still smoking. fozziebear 18-07-2006, 14:46 they have evacuated some of the residents directly behind because the unit on fire is at the end of their gardens. bigflesh 18-07-2006, 14:46 Just driven through Dronfield - (2 mins ago) thick black smoke (acrid smell in the air) is clearly visible from there, heading towards town on the breeze. simondjuk 18-07-2006, 14:48 i can see the smoke where I am (behind Meadowhall) and its getting blacker and thicker too. Why is it hot weather = fires and traffic accidents? gremlin_mick 18-07-2006, 14:50 My wife is saying theres horrible black smoke drifting back towards Prince of Wales Road. Its smells of chemicals and its hurting her throat, so it sounds a bit nasty... eyretile 18-07-2006, 14:51 i can see the smoke where I am (behind Meadowhall) and its getting blacker and thicker too. Why is it hot weather = fires and traffic accidents? Materials are more prone to combustion in hot arrid conditions twichibi 18-07-2006, 14:51 Why are there so many contrasting stories on here?? :loopy: Hanksy 18-07-2006, 14:53 Because 2 thread where merged and they seems to be 2 fires also! charlie9865 18-07-2006, 14:54 My other half just phoned his a electrical enginer for ace janitorial supplies at attercliff. Saxon 18-07-2006, 14:55 I can categorically state that it is the umbrella factory on the Portland Business Park next to the driving test centre at Handsworth as I had a pupil out on test when it went up, and saw it with my own eyes. Must have taken fire brigade about 20 minutes to respond to the 999 call though. bigflesh 18-07-2006, 14:56 The other day it was the north show, now it would appear to be the south sides turn. bigflesh 18-07-2006, 14:57 I can categorically state that it is the umbrella factory on the Portland Business Park this is just too funny to be true! eyretile 18-07-2006, 14:59 It never rains as they say Hanksy 18-07-2006, 15:00 Sunday all over again LL200 18-07-2006, 15:01 It never rains as they say damn lucky if its the umbrella factory... eyretile 18-07-2006, 15:02 On a serious note lets hope no one is hurt drolnhoj 18-07-2006, 15:04 Saxon is correct that it is on the Portland Business Park. I picked the kids up from Athelstan School at 3 pm and the fire was raging then. There is still alot of smoke now. squeakyclean 18-07-2006, 15:05 Yes, I hope no one is hurt too. It must be a pretty bad one, as the smoke is still quite thick. bigflesh 18-07-2006, 15:06 Seems to have calmed down in the past 10 minutes - smoke is not as black and less of it. gravity-slave 18-07-2006, 15:06 I work near the Parkway, just between CostCo and Macro. Looking East to the M1, I can see: http://www.gravity-slaves.co.uk/stuff/smoke_plume.jpg Seems to be billowing and burning pretty strongly. We are all trying to figure out where it's coming from! Hoped it wasn't ASDA - too hot for toasted sarnies. DancingDave 18-07-2006, 15:28 Fingers crossed the parkway'll be clear then ! Coudln't beleive they had the camera van out yesterday in the heat - actually felt sorry for the guy operating it stuck in side! Ha - The sight of a camera van on fire, that would be a laugh, ( of course as long as those lovely rozzers weren't inside at the time ) Lancs_Lad 18-07-2006, 16:34 I can categorically state that it is the umbrella factory on the Portland Business Park next to the driving test centre at Handsworth as I had a pupil out on test when it went up, and saw it with my own eyes. Must have taken fire brigade about 20 minutes to respond to the 999 call though. Its probably air conditioned Wattsy 19-07-2006, 14:40 Was there a fire in Handsworth Yesterday about 2.45. Saw the Fire engine screeming down the parkway and lots of thick black smoke. As i was getting nearer the turn off for Mosbrough Parkway it looked like it was at the Adsa site. Any clues or were they just buring the bread in sympathy with Fletchers. RichC 19-07-2006, 14:42 There was a load of smoke coming from behind Asda last night. When me and the missus went over there - at about 7pm - it was still smoking. simondjuk 19-07-2006, 14:48 it was a plastics factory as far a we can gather Wattsy 19-07-2006, 14:49 Thank you!!! simondjuk 19-07-2006, 14:54 http://www.sheffieldtoday.net/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=58&ArticleID=1636213 report of the sheffieldtoday website medusa 20-07-2006, 17:15 Mod note: Threads merged. bluebird62 20-07-2006, 17:31 The fire that you are all about is coming from the allotments on High Hazels Prk.
