Yeah that chippy used to be excellent! they couldnt be bothered now it seems. I have family that live over there and used to use the shops quite a lot.

Cockerswfc is correct, the chip shop sell terrible chips and fish, the fish is never white as cod should be, its grey. The paper shop has never been the same since Maurice retired, I have two papers delivered on Saturday and three on Sunday and I used to get them before 8.30 a.m. on each day but not now they can come between 10.00 a.m. and after 1.00 p.m. to be fair they just cant keep delivery boys and girls. The Co-op is not a patch on what it used to be either. The shopping centre itself is depressing, its dirty and the people that hang around there are not the nicest of people. End of rant.
segasonic 18-07-2006, 19:16 When did Maurice go? I worked for him for several years.
I use them occasionally but the smell of the chippy is :gag: and the paper shop is a joke. I can remember when they got done some years ago selling fireworks to underage kids as well. Haven't been up there for quite a bit now, sometimes use the hardware shop and they're nice people in there, but the Co-Op's a pain ever since they refurbished and redesigned it, the prices are exhorbitant, and I'll only use it now if I'm desperate.
The people using the precinct as The Blackstock's unofficial beer garden don't help either.
BasilRathbon 19-07-2006, 12:24 Is that dodgy Cash Converters still there? If so, don't go in - they rip you off.
A couple of years back I bought a Sony minidisc player there - it was boxed as new, not a mark on it, I gave it a good test and agreed to buy it. While I was getting my money out the bloke behind the counter swapped it for a manky, scratched old version of the same model, that packed up barely a year later.
Never been back since.....
littleboo 19-07-2006, 12:50 We live just off Blackstock road and have done for four years, Don't really use any shops around here.
I was recently on a first aid course which was run at Newfield Green community centre, It was a hot day so on my way to the course I popped into the paper shop and bought a bottle of Evian water from the fridge. I went merrily along to my course and tried to have a drink of my water.....It was frozen solid, at break time I nipped back to the paper shop to tell them that I thought that the fridge was broken, The assistant said 'she couldn't give me another as no one else had complained' (the bottle was still solid) and 'how did she know that I hadn't taken it home a frozen it myself'....I wonder why her career was based in a paper shop!!:hihi:
I had a quick look around the shops out of curiosity, they seem to be very dirty and run down and don't really sell anything of interest.
We usually go to Sainsburys at Jackson's (townend) and we use that chippy too.
When did Maurice go? I worked for him for several years.
Good old Maurice retired over twelve years ago, he was a great bloke and nothing was to much trouble for him. I still see him occasionally as he lives somewhere on Blackstock road (bottom end) his wife works in the hardware shop now (the old Post Office)
The Cash Converters is very, very iffy, I never knew how much valuable goods unemployed teen-agers owned, then they sell it, very strange to say the least!
