Can anyone remember the MAypole and Morris dancers in Woodhouse village in the 70's?. We also had the May QUenn festival too. What happened to it though?. IT would be fantastic to have it all happening again, and this time, for everyone to know the real meaning of the MAypole, Morris Dancers and the May QUeen. But we, as children loved it, and it was usually somebody form our school (shirebrook) that got picked for Mayqueen. But, a fun time had for all............bout time it was repeated.

I assume there's nowhere to 'plant'the maypole in the village now?
Have you got any photos?
Can you share them with us?

I vaguelly remember it as well. I'm sure there are some photos in those books on Woodhouse that Dickinson's used to sell.
yup. it was where the stocks are and all in the square. Not many people seem to remember it, i'd really like to get it going again.

I remember it. I think it's where I developed a life long hatred of morris dancers. I remember kids from woodhouse west being forced to take part at the same time there was a chicken pox outbreak.
I used to go to Brunswick Middle school in to 70's and I remember ‘the big kids’ practicing their weaves around it in the school hall. Its proably gone now.

This isn't going to be in the least bit confusing, is it? :suspect:
Stix, you may want to change your username - if you don't want people to think you're a sarcastic cat-hating recluse who spends all day on the internet ;)

I think that the Maypole dancers would be great, what do you mean about "for everyone to know the real meaning of the MAypole, Morris Dancers and the May QUeen" ?

Talking of Maypoles, does anyone know what that metalic Olympic-flame-masty-thing is that's been plonked outside the Co-op?
