View Full Version : 51 bus painted in 60's livery
Pistol Pete 18-06-2004, 15:38 Hi. I don't know if anyone else has seen it, but one of the 51 buses seems to have been painted in the traditional cream and blue of Sheffield Corporation Transport buses of the 60's.
I think it looks fantastic. So much more classy than the lurid purple and pink of the current aptly named 'Barbie buses'.
I'm assuming its to celebrate some sort of anniversary rather than painting them all like that (though that would be nice).
Cheers,
Pete
I've noticed that myself. I wondered if it was a First bus at first. It looks great, you're dead right much better than tacky pink and purple we have now. Then again what was the yellow on buses before that? They were horrible!!!
yeah i noticed that the other day, looks much better in cream with the big sheffield coat of arms on the front.
Ive seen these too :D
I think they are really cool
Prolly the first thing that First Painline have done well in a while

Just a marketing excercise. They just want you to think that it's run locally again, rather than from Aberdeen (First's head office).
The only way forward is for the council to buy a majority holding in the local bus service. Other councils have done it. Why does Sheff what lag behind. Are they closet tories or just scared.
This livery can be seen from further away as well, for some reason.
andy1702 18-06-2004, 21:44 The bus you've all been seeing is a one-off. Part of what fast-buck.... sorry, First Bus call their 'Herritage Fleet'.
There is a double decker in Doncaster in the old Donny Corporation red and purple and a single deck in the blue & cream of Rotherham.
What you may not know is that the 'Barbie 2' style of pink & purple is actually a Sheffield livery too. It was an experimental style applied to older vehicles when only brand new buses were supposed to be in the First colours. The Barbie 2 fadeout pink was created by staff at one of the Mainline depots and was so well thought of by head office that it's now been adopted nationally.

Sam Miguel 19-06-2004, 10:00 The buses should all be painted this colour. It looks so much better.
Pistol Pete 19-06-2004, 11:22 Thanks for the info andy1702. I did'nt realise they had done the same thing in Doncaster an Rotherham.
I suppose we'll just have to wait until the white of the 'Barbie buses' naturally fades and stains to a nice shade of cream!
Cheers,
Pete
mr.blaze 19-06-2004, 14:07 And there was me thinking they'd had to use those old lookin ones coz all the purple ones had broken down.
I agree it looks grrrrrrreat
will they charge 60's fares too?
....and stick conductors back on them to get us there quicker?
