I remember PopT. In the 50s and 60s, whenever my mum baked, she'd make us some. Lovely with a bit of fresh butter on it.

Gone all nostalgic now

I remember it as well PopT in the 50's , and as saxon51 says it was lovely with a bit of "best butter " on it as my mum used to call it .

What we used to call 'Fat Cakes' was the dough left over after my mother had made a meat & potato pie. Patted into a round shape and baked at the same time as the pie

That's how I remember it too.

Fatcakes, or the name at least will probably be a thing of the past thanks to some European union law that prohibits the use of the word "Fat" in a foodstuff.

My Mum's fatcakes were usually studded with currants (which I used to pick out- hated 'em) Maybe we could call them chubby-cakes now?
