WORKED there for nearly 20yrs, :loopy: what do you wanna know ?id like to know why you dont tell us about things that we are legally entitled to claim, why do people have to go and ask someone like the c a b just what their rights are ? why after spending millions of pounds on adverts saying we know who the dole cheats are,are there still fraudulent claimants ?

That would perhaps have something to do with the Private Sector being; under-paid, under-valued, short-staffed, harassed, morale at rock bottom, living under the threat of redundancy/outsourcing.... and insufficiently trained & supported to perform a quality role.

Why not show you support to DWP workers in our next series of industrial action, in our efforts to ask the Gorvernment for better terms & conditions. We may then stand a chance of being able to provide a professional service to you ....

 .. and while I'm at it (might as well get it all off my chest)

Why do people think that if you work for the DWP you instantly know the benefit regime & fraud strategy back to front?

DWP employs over 150,000 + staff, performing a wide range of roles - many of which have absolutely nothing to do with Benefits.

As well as the benefit stuff in Fraud, Jobcentre Plus, CSA, Pensions, Disability & Carers Services... We are also extremely busy in other areas.... here's just a sample ~ Veterans Agency, Debt Management, Medical Group, Dept of Law & Policy, Health & Safety Executive, Cabinet Office, Dept of Culture, Media and Sport, Dept of Education and Skills, Dept of Environment, Dept of Food & Rural Affairs, Dept of Health, Dept of Trade & Industry, Dept of Transport, Local Government and the Regions, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Her Majesty's Treasury, Home Office, Lord Chancellor's Department, Ministry of Defence, Rent Service.

BTW ... I work in IT infrastructure, yet another area with nothing what so ever to do with benefit entitlement or fraud.

by your reply i can now see the answer to my question, you cant tell us the answers because you dont know them, each one has its own little set of answers, anything out of the area gets passed on to some one who may have that page of answers, thanx for the clarification

any DWP peeps that can answer this?

am I correct in saying immigrants into this country have to be told the benefits they are entitled to, yet people that have lived and worked in this country that find them selves on support for whatever reason, aren't?

or did I just dream that in the pub or something?

If you think you need to claim benefit or you think you might be entitled to something, you just need to phone up and ask. A member of staff will ask a few questions about your circumstances and give you an idea of what you may be eligible for. Easy.

99% of benefit-related gossip that you hear about in the pub is complete b*ll*cks. Ask someone at the Jobcentre.

I can answer this accurately: no, you're not correct.

So you want an even more cushy pension scheme than you have at the moment?

I'm sure that a more 'professional service' could be sorted by installing some decent management in government departments such as DWP.

Hi everyone

I was wondering whether anybody works for the DWP at Skills House (in the HR section)? What's it like?

Thanks

Regardless of the calibre of staff and the service provided, the reality is that the system inplace simply does not work well. You can be as pleasant as you like, but if a product is rubbish, it's rubbish.

As someone who's worked fulltime since leaving school I was unfortunately made redundant a few years ago, only for 3 months. The biggest shock about the entire affair was how utterly useless the DWP were. They took great effort to explain to me that since I was actually capable of work and had paid tax that I'd really be better off sorting myself out. They only seem to cater to the feckless and people who refuse to work. They effectively said to me "We are useless and we won't help you in anyway".

So.. I'm afraid I will not be able to show my support. I feel sorry that you have to administer a system that is utterly useless.. I'd suggest a different and less futile job (and a change of government).

Skills House itself is pretty pokey, but we're supposed to be moving to newer premises later this year.

Although morale tends to vary from section to section, the work is generally not of the most challenging or inspiring nature, but it's better than a lot of jobs I can think of...

That's about all I can say about it really, not the best job in the world but certainly not the worst - as a means to an end it's not bad, and you don't have to deal with benefits or the general public.:gag:
