View Full Version : England v Switzerland
uncleheed 17-06-2004, 18:07 Even though England hav eturned the Swiss over,it was hardly convincing.
Switzerland were down to 10 men and still the lads couldn't overcome them.My fears have been realised,England are just not up to the task of taking on Europes elite
we won 3-0 back the lads stop slagging them off
uncleheed 17-06-2004, 18:44 I'm not slagging them off,and i'm as patriotic as the next man,i'm just stating the facts.
Admit it,you and i know we are going to win **** all.
But supporting the team still gets my juices going .
ROONEY...what a star 8)
he is pure brill!!
n fit as ****
The team didn't play brilliant but they got the result. Job well done.
Remember it was 44 degrees C down on the pitch with it being the earlier kick off. Our last group game, and any future games should we get further, will all be the later kick off time of 19:45 BST when it has cooled down.

Ok, he may be able to play football but i hate it when he does those Sugar Puffs adverts. 'Show me da honey - mummy' :P
Ned Ludd 18-06-2004, 10:29 Quality goals from moments of individual quality.
Unfortunately England do not look to be a cohesive team unit, particularly in midfield. James looks a bit iffy in goal and it was wrong to drop King after the French game.
The pundits "we only need a draw against Croatia" are being rather dismissive of their chances to cause an upset.
Rooney looks the part but he's having to do much work for himself, with insufficient support from midfield.
And now a controversial question: Have England become the new Germany?
ie playing boring, unadventurous football and not particularly well but grinding out the results anyway (I'll forget the France result!)
I fully agree that is was an "ugly win", but WHO CARES!?!!? We got the 3 points we needed to go into the Croatia match.
England always seem to play to their oponents level, i mean against France they were awsome! But last night they stepped down a gear (im sure the heat played a part as well) but they still got the result.
Look at the England Rugby Team, they admitted they played boring / ugly games all the way through untill the final.....but they won!!!!
I think more people need to start having faith in the lads, English supporters tend to let the heads drop unless we win every match 10-0.
We have an amzing team, that on their day, can out class ANY other international squad!!
England V France final all the way i reckon!!! And we'll get the result we DESERVED this time!!!
COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
steelblade 18-06-2004, 12:09 I have to agree that King should not have been dropped in favour of Terry. I hope Sven will play King in the Croatia game.
Gerrard certainly made up for his mistake against France. Rooney was brilliant, again. Owen doesn't appear to be having a very good tournament but I guess that's the way it goes sometimes.
I also don't think Beckham is playing to his full potential either. Or it could be that we have so many other players with great talent that Beckham no longer "stands out"?
All in all a pretty boring game, no where near as exciting as the France game but maybe that's a good thing! :P
I've said it before and I'll say it again, bring on France in the Final!!!!!
I personally don't think Beckham has been getting enough of the ball but England haven't managed to put many passes together before losing the ball.
Against the Swiss I don't think England looked comfortable against set peices.
Although Owen hasn't had much of a look in I think Sven ought to persist with him as he has been doing.

I thought Rooney's ricocheted goal was fantastic - he scored and managed to whack the keeper on the back of the head with one strike.
I'm sure Rooney intended that

Good points Ned. Rooney is having to run all over the park and his working really hard during games.
I don't like it when teams try to defend a 1 goal lead.
I don't think Englands midfield has been as dominant as it can be. I'd also like to see Joe Cole involved in the setup.
So far I think the overall quality has been poor and I haven't seen an outstanding game from a neutral standpoint.

Mustn't forget though that it was 44 degrees for BOTH teams.
But that aside, well done England.

Yes, and Switzerland didn't particularly play well either. You can't expect a high quality, fast, flowing game of football at that temperature, especially not for the whole 90 mins. So the fact that we won so well without playing as well as we can do was good, and we won't have to play at the earlier kick off time again now.

Give him a Burberry cap and he would look like any other chav, tho i am very glad he's on our side. It not going to be easy against croatia (sp??) but i do think we have a pretty good chance of going through.

We're talking football here, not breakfast cereal. I go along with the majority: we won 3-0. Great result.
