Seriously do not move here.

If i had the money to move, id leave straight away.
The village has a serious drug problems and there have been muggings assaults etc.

Also there is literally no entertainment in the village.

The shoppings ok.

The bus service through the area is pretty poor.

All in all id suggest moving somewhere else

The part i go through looks OK, from Wickersley and turn left at the Thurcroft pub, down towards Laughton Le Morthern although never been into the deepest part of it.
Just shows you first impressions are not always right.

I spoke to someone who lives there that said it was really nice. She lived down by the school...

Why is it so bad?

It did seem a lovely little village

This is a really old thread i have dug up here but would like any further comments.

Really interested in Arbour drive and surrounding streets in Thurcroft, any other people know it ?

Also would be interested in anyone private renting in this area and what the rental market is like and what you could expect to pay per month for a 4 bedroom Semi ?

Thanks in advance

I lived there for the first 18 years of my life and the only reason I go back is because my parents still live there.
Drug problems, ram raidings on the spar and coop, firebombing the off license, thats just the adults, don't get me started on the teenagers.
It was ok before the pit closed down, then when they moved everybody out of the notorious laughton common estate into the village the last nail was in the coffin.
They have street security out at night because the kids get that bad. I would not live there again for all the tea in china.

Laughton en le Morthen is a lovely village (where I live), it is just up the road from Thurcroft. Some parts of Thurcroft are ok, but there is a lot of crime in most parts of it. I would not live there. :o

Laughton en le Morthen is lovely you're right as is Brookhouse where I spent many childhood days minnowing in the brook.
Are the pubs still any good at laughton?
I used to love the fantastic views you get of Laughton church from all over the area.

Laughton en le Morthen is very nice - looking there myself, always stuns me how it can be so horrible in Thurcroft when it is so close.
Seriously, dont do it. It is HORRIBLE

Both pubs are ok, excellent stops if you like walking. Both are on a very good network of paths that take you down to Roche Abbey, Brookhouse, Slade Hooton, Firbeck. In fact I am suffering the effects of one of these marathon walks as I did one on Saturday with the dogs.:P
