I did a mad dash into Aberdeen this morning only to get a pattern and some yarn for this blooming child's beanie class for the show. I was told that even if I replaced the roll brim with ribbing then it still wouldn't be allowed because of the spiky leaves. The lady that is "guiding" me is being truthful I'm sure because she isn't entering anything in this class, so I don't think there is anything malicious in it:suspect: :)
This (http://www.karpstyles.com/catalog.html?item=1834) is what I've come up with in it's place. I may not put the flower on it till after the show when it will be donated to a little girl of 3 that I've become fond of.
I chose Jaegar Matchmaker in grapevine (http://www.englishyarns.co.uk/ShadeCards/Jaeger/Aug2005/JaegerCard1aAug2005.jpg) colourway(colout 755). The pattern goes right up to 6 year old so that should cover the child's bit of the class.

That should look nice though - its a real shame you wont be able to enter the first one.

That's lovely. It's really quite 30s-inspired, and it has a definite feel of crochet about it too. The flowers really set it off nicely, but I can imagine that it might somehow disqualify it from the beanie catagory. Best to attach them after, as you say.

Wouldn't it have just been more straight forward to have a class called 'Children's Hats' ?

Talking of hats, I've just started the Baby Tart hat from Knitty. I'm doing it in wool though, not the specified cotton. It's quite a bugger to knit actually, because the berry pattern consists of bobbles on a purl background. This is fine in itself, but the bobbles are every two stitches (aprox 20 per round) and k3 togs are involved. The latter are a pain when you knit as tightly as I do.

Pictures to follow though, assuming I get it completed some time this year (I still haven't blocked the Jaywalkers  ).
