i know often there are blank ones or viruses or phising type ones or those that claim to be people far a far away land who need to deposit money into your paypal account etc, but ever just strange random mails with seemingly no purpose?

People do use different methods for you to open an email though. Once it's opened, it then spreads, that's the danger.

its jus being careful withh attachments tho, a lot email services like hotmail will automatically scan stuff anyway
Call me a cynic, I don't trust it really. Some still gets through... I'm not clued up on the technology, but...even web-based ones have its own problems, I suspect.
For me, I just delete any emails as spam if I don't recognise the title, or the recipient.
