I'm sure everyone has had this or similar conversations about who they would like to invite to dinner to chat with. Whether respected or despised, dead or alive, who do you want to chat to over dinner (4 people)

1. MK Gandhi.
Incredible human spirit and amazing mind.

2. Adolf Hitler.
History’s most hated human. I would be fascinated to here what he had to say

3. Bob Dylan.
In my opinion the finest singer songwriter of all time.

4. Jesus.
I would love to see his reaction when he finds out people still idolise him and use his name in everyday life. It would also be interesting to see what he thinks about people wearing crosses. What will he think about the cross being used to symbolise him when his recollection of crosses is being nailed to them and slowly dieing.

1) Bill Hicks: a visionary who's only act was to speak the unfettered truth.

2) JRR Tolkien: to ask the question: "Just what the **** is Tom Bombadil? and what had you been smoking when you came up with the idea?"

3) Cervantes: author of the best insight into human nature ever penned.

4) George Dubyah Bush: to watch the cretin squirm under the gaze of the other guests.

5) If I could cheat and invite a fifth guest, I'd plump for HP Lovecraft, so that I could settle once and for all whether he was a retiring prig or a fascinating conversatinalist.

I would love to see my granddad again and meet my nan before she was ill (alziemiers).

I think I would also chose Elvis - to find out why he ended up so screwed up and what went wrong

the same with wacko jacko - find out how he started off black and then turned white, why he is the way he is really

plus someone from the caveman times to find out what life was like then with all the dinos and stuff

I assume that you're joking with the last choice there, bombshell?

Alive: Steven Fry

Dead: Jason McRoy

I'd find Spen King fascinating too.

Pardon my ignorance, but who are Jason McRoy and Spen King?

I only ask because I'm interested in why you'd choose them?

Prehaps once the cave men have meet Dino and the boys they can go riding on a unicorn, meet Nessie, cure aids.

Prehaps they can come back and build a settlement in the West Bank and not be surprised when they antagonise their neighbours.

Seems how he blew his head off with a shot gun I thought the answer to that would have been obvious ;)

Sorry. Bad attempt at humour!!

Anyway, back to the topic. My guests would have to be:

George Orwell - to discuss '1984'.

Cliff Burton (late bassist for Metallica) - and discuss all things bass related. You would never guess what instrument I play ;)

My late grandad.

Eddie Izzard.

It would certainly be an interesting and lively dinner party.

Well mine would have to be:

Oscar Wilde - Someone interesting to talk to.

Billy Conally - Someone to make me laugh.

Martin Luther King - someone to inspire and motivate me.

Joseph Finnes - Someone pretty to look at (plus he can recite Shakespeare if, god forbid, there was a lull in the conversation!)

Spen King was the designer of the original Land Rover 100 inch Station Wagon (later to be named Range Rover) among other things. He was a big player in the British motor industry back when it was British.
Being a Land Rover geek, I'd love to talk to him about his life's work.

Jason McRoy is the closest I've ever had to a hero.
He was a Mountain Bike rider in the early days of the sport of Downhill. He'd also raced road and BMX.
He was a popular figure on the world circuit, and was exceptionally talented.

He was killed, in 1995, on his Harley Davidson on the Woodhead Pass.

He was an inspiration to so many riders, me included.
He still represents what it means to ride a bike on dirt.

1. Keith Richards from Rolling Stones
Because he looks cool and I bet he's got some tales to tell!

2. Germaine Greer
I like her, she talks sense - sometimes.

3. Hilary Clinton
I admire her, she's a strong woman.

4. Gordon Ramsey
He's yummy!

5. My great-grandma
Because I was really young when she died so I don't remember her. But apparently I am very much like her.

p.s I am inviting 5 because its bad luck to have an odd number at dinner - apparently!

"He was killed, in 1995, on his Harley Davidson on the Woodhead Pass."

Interesting. I've often passed his "shrine" and wondered who he was. His parents must have loved him very much but I sometimes think that the place a person is killed is not the place to remember them.

Col

Its not just the parents that go there - the other pros from around the world leave there old racing licences there, along with bike parts and number boards etc.

See what you mean though, I'm not big on roadside memorials like that usually. It's just a special place. For riders who remember him, it's a special place.

The fact that the shrine remains to this day, 9 years on, shows how much he meant to so many.

If I could invite other guests as well as those I've already mentioned, they would be...

Wilma Flintstone
Betty Rubble

Well Fred and Barney never take them any place so why not?! And I begrudgingly admit to being in love with both, especially Betty, she's a BABE!

There was a nice low budget film that featured Cameron Diaz about a bunch of liberals who invited people they didn't like to supper so they could murder them....cool.....;-) Called The Last Supper, I believe.

Anyway....the people for when we get the good china and best wine out at The Towers.....

My late mum and dad.
Richard Feynman, Physicist and Bongo player.
General George Patton, US Military genius and soldier slapper.
George Orwell
Alan Turing
Paul Allen - co-founder of Microsoft

I'd have Tori Amos on the piano playing her best stuff.
And as someone else said, Ustinov to provide the after dinner speech.

Of course, Turing and Feynman would get their heads together about something techie. Patton and Orwell would probably have a scrap.

I'd tell my mum and dad how much I miss 'em. Paul Allen could fix my buggered installation of Windows ME.....

Feynman would then probably try and chat up Tori Amos.

Ustinov would borrow Feynman's bongos.

Orwell and Patton would eventually find some booze and put the world right.

What a perfect evening!

Joe :-)
