as I understand you're not allow cans of deoderant on flights as the pressure can force it to explode but does this go for small cans of insect repellent? I'm going on a long-haul flight on Thursday and need my mosquito spray and it is expensive where I am going so don't want to have to buy it again.
Does anyone know what I should do?
Cheers
I took deodorant on my flight, wasn't a problem

It's the reduced pressure in the hold that can cause pressurised containers to explode - take it with you in your hand luggage (i.e. onto the (partially) pressurised bit of the plane) and you'll be fine. :)

If I read the BA guidelines (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/bagrest/public/en_gb) correctly it would appear that normal aerosols are only banned if they are over 2kg/2litres in size.
cheers steve. will do. Are you sure u can have a spray in your hand luggage? what about all the safety procedures you have to go thru?

If you're in doubt, give your airline a call or check their website, but yep, it's always been fine when I've travelled. :)
You should also note that you can get a spray, rather than a pressurised aerosol and this isn't a problem to anyone.

I am a regular flier and I have never heard of anything actually exploding. I think they worry you with stuff like that so they cover themselves.
I usually fit everything in my hand luggage and travel light, nomatter how long I am going for. It is far more satisfying to be out of the airport first than have heavy hold luggage full of stuff which you didn't use.
It is surprising how much you can get into a 40 litre ruck sack, and I have never had a problem with taking one into the cabin.

Use 100% deet from a camping shop. It is in non aerosol plastic bottles and so it's better for the environment, easier to use, lighter to carry and you can see how much is left.
It also works very well as I found out to my delight while trecking in the North Malaysian jungles.
Poor little mozzies went hungry
HOT TIP - A little around the socks keeps the ants from walking up your legs.
And no worries about problems on an aircraft.
PS don't let the shop tell you anything less than 100% deet - if you are going to a tropical place with lots of mozzies you WILL need it.

I asked at the airport shop for deoderant, the girl said "aerosol or ball type?"
I said "actually, it's for my armpits" :hihi:
