A group of virus writers have created the first cell phone worm (http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99995111)
Only has the potential to be dangerous for the sort of people who open strange attachemnts. So would probably spread quickly ;)
Also reported here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3809855.stm).
Intriguing stuff, the first time I've been truly glad to own a Microsoft SmartPhone rather than plumping for a Symbian.
It was gonna happen and I guess the same common-sense approach for PC users has to be taken - don't accept files from untrusted sources (this first work still requires the user to accept the file).
Things'll get a bit nightmarish if anyone manages to discover and exploit a vulnerability that doesn't require user intervention...
Cool! A virus for my Nokia!
Let's hope it's more interesting than the Symbian port of Splinter Cell :loopy:
You can have 'fun' with the Bluetooth connection - try sending anonymous insults and threats to those within range and watch their faces drop
Abdul's security tip #4364 . Switch Bluetooth off, except when necessary. It does strange things to Bluetooth enabled PCs - the Hardware Detection alert goes off the scale!

I think the idea of a virus for a cellphone is fantastic. Imagine the whole of the UK losing the abillity to use their cellphones lol. I certainly wouldn't mind losing the abillity of using mine for a while.
Since when have we all turned into americans?

Vodafone and Cellnet used to refer to them as cellphones back in the early 80's.

I asked this American guy I met in Newcastle why they were called 'cell'phones. Apparently, it's because each area of coverage from one mast is called a cell.
Betcha didn't know that!
(betcha did :D)
