I used to love Rainbow! But as I got older Rod, Jayne and Freddy used to really annoy me!

Grange Hill was another favourite and Paddington.

Apart from that the only other thing I had to watch as a kid was Peter Sissons reading the news at 1. Mum said I'd refuse to go back to school until I'd seen him!

I found certain Rainbow characters annoying, particularly Zippy and that damn chav Bungle boggs or whatever the chuff Zippy used to call him.

What about those kids TV programmes you remember but no-one else ever seems to?

Ludwig - the jeweled egg precursor to Inspector Gadget which could only have come from the mind of someone on the very serious acid trip!

Into the labyrinth - I remember loving this but don't actually remember too much about it :o

Now Get Out Of That - not really a kids program and (nearly) reality TV but still fab!

I was in HMV in Meadowhall yesterday, and was half tempted to pay £20 for a DVD containing the combined 39 episodes of Trumpton, Chigley and Camberwick Green.

Hey those programmes were CLASS back in the day... I'd have bought the DVD if it weren't for the fact that Mum said she would persuade the whole family to mercilessly rip the **** out of me for doing so for the rest of my natural days.

I was a massive fan of Dungeons and Dragons, always used to wind me up though when dungeon master always used to disappear behind that rock oh and how they could have got home in one episode but Bobby wouldn't leave the stupid whining unicorn-right annoying.

Also loved loved knightmare "Play fair or fear play foul"

Big fan of :
Muppet babies
Battle of the planet
trapdoor
Willo the wisp
cities of gold
Bertha
And of course Dogtanian

Used to also love Robin of sherwood and all creatures great and small on a sunday!!

Oh and the best saturday show by far was Going Live with Philip Schofield (though i was a secret watcher of sm:tv with ant and dec!! A sad attempt to try and reclaim my youth me thinks!!)

Anyone remember "Terrorhawks" the programme with the 0 & X twist.
What about "Manimal" the man who morphed into a variety of animal's when thing's got bad.
Streethawk, Uylesses, Thundercats, all classics surprised none of them have managed a re-run on Sky/Cable TV.
Also could anyone tell me the name of the puzzle based programme set in space, the one with the white hexagonal frame, or is that just a dream i had.

i think it was "the adventure-game", rubbersoul. I loved that programme! It was excellent, the puzzles were mind-fodder, making the old grey-cells work overtime.

The inhabitants of this space craft were dragon-type creatures who took on human form. Do you remember the dragon king, Rangdor, who used to disguise himself as an aspisistra plant.. (chuckles;_ do you remember that? and the professor-y type who looked like the first or second Doctor who, William Hartnell?)

The greetings, and titles etc were anagrams of the word "Dragon"
eg when teh king arrived, he would be greeted by the people bowing and saying "grondo, grondo, oh Rangdor!"

it was like an early cross between Knightmare, and The Crystal Maze, with the puzzles to solve.

then, when you had finally got through all the tests and puzzles, you could only "go home" once you'd safely crossed that hexagonal grid. The only problem was, that you had to avoid the Vortex thing that was chasing you, trying to block your access to the opposite side , and freedom.

And terror (terra?) hawks was my son (and other -half)'s favourite programme. It was a Gerry Anderson creation , yes, the same bloke who created "Thunderbirds", "Joe 90", "Torchy, the Battery Boy" and the series set in an undersea world with Troy Tempest and the mute mermaid, Marina... I can't remember the name of that programme.
oh, hang on! my mate has just told me! it was "Stingray"!!

Does anyone remember a kids TV quiz on the beeb called "Beat the Teacher" mid to late 80's I think. Seem to recall some teacher from Sheffield being on there, think he was called Mr Jones or something not sure which school he was from. Anyways he was on for weeks and none of the kids could beat him, I think he was eventually told that he had to lose in the end.

Roland Rat
The Muppet Show
Dungeons & Dragons
Button Moon
Byker Grove
Sooty (don't laugh)
Thunderbirds
He-Man
Chocabloc (i think thats right)

& a programme I think was called T-bag, T-bag was played by someone who is now in Emerdale but I don't watch it so don't know her name, also had somebody called T-shirt in it but don't remember much else.

Apparently when I was 1 I was a huge fan of Dallas and wouldn't go to bed until it had finished. Also at this age i apparently used to cry when Willo the Wisp finished, don't remember this though.

Flicks was a show aimed at promoting reading to younger children, presented by the unimitable Christopher Lillicrap.

Does anyone remember a kids quiz show that used to be on early evening presented by Debbie Greenwood? It used to have a mix of questions and rounds where you had to play the old Hypersports computer game. Yes it was called First Class, there was a computer that kept the scores called Eugene, As you say they played Konami's Hypersports, but on some series im sure they played Paperboy as well.

I made one of those control row of switches they used hammer away on to play hypersports, because I was fed up of wearing out many spectrum keyboard membranes and "Quick shot" Joysticks.

as a swap shop watcher - it wasn't just posh ready brek kids, but criminal mastermind tweenagers trying to swap their dad's Black & Decker Workmate for an Action Man Submarine or Barbie motorhome.

Best part of that program was the Star Spot.

"hello, is that Matt Bianco (a cack band from the early eighties)
(in unison)"yes, hi"
"you're a bunch of w***ers"

And I will always remember Thatcher looking especially uncomfortable when a kid in the studio asked her:
"Where will you be if nuclear bombs are dropped?"
and as thatch floundered the young girl continued "you'll be in your shelter underground while the rest of us die won't you?"

They cut to the toons....

Problem is though, with all due respect to yourself, kids these days have a low attention span, and program makers have to keep them interested for more than the typical 10 minutes any kid will care about a program before going back to their PS2s etc, so they'll do anything and everything possible, and sometimes the results can get a bit nasty :loopy:

It was a futuristic retelling of the ancient Greek legend of Ulysses, the robot was called No No.

I already have the complete series DVD pre-ordered on Play.com.

I have a big DVD shopping list lately.

I know its not a kids programme, but do you remember "armchair thriller" that used to scare the pants off me, I used to baby sit at my Aunties and watch ut , remember the one about the small people in the dolls house >spooky stuff, also tales of the unexpected, now that theme tune is still creepy.

Whatever happened to wurzal gummage or whatever it was called "a cup a tea an a slice of cake" I would luv to show that to my kids they would luv it.

I loved that! Still look out for it coming back on the lesser popular sky channels, along with the old Hammer house of Horrors.
Things I was scared off as a kid as a result of those programmes:
Opening curtains in the middle of the night (Children of the full moon - the Diana Dors one)
Turn the taps on alone (The house that bled to death)
Porcelain dolls (Dunno which one but the doll had jagged teeth!)

Indeed.

Mind numbing sh*te that even a 4 year old should be embarrassed to watch, like Teletubbies, Boobahs, Fimbles... Honestly, come back He Man (the originals not the crap new ones)! All is forgiven!

Rich if you had had to endure any teletubbies etc you would see that it is infact very very good tv for preschoolers.

He-Man was a cartoon to sell merchandise to promote cartoons and total, badly animated, poorly scripted, crud - not to put too finer point on it.

Finally worked my way through this thread and I must admit I thought I was the only person who remembered Ace of Wands; it obviously made a pretty big impression on me. I know Timeslip has been released on DVD but Ace of Wands seems to have vanished completely - as far as I know it's never even been repeated. If they put it out on video/DVD I'd definitely buy it.

Twas on friday afternoon when I came across this on the kids TV when I was lazily flicking through the Sky Channels.

Scary Sleepover.

You would not believe how good this is.
I thought it was brilliant.

Think - a scarier version of Fun House and you're nearly there.

The kids have to 'sleepover' in a haunted mansion like set and they have to do different challenges to win prizes.

Some of the kids looked like they were crapping themselves, when scary stuff started kicking off, and they sent one poor kid down a trapdoor into a dark tunnel to fetch a dead Eel at the bottom to win a prize- genius!!

I think its just on fridays, but its a brilliant watch :)

Anyone else seen it?

Website is here: http://www.citv.co.uk/page.asp?partid=141

PS: I dont normally watch kids TV :) :)

I think I would have loved a show like that when I was a kid! I loved to be scared.

In the mid to late 80's, I used to babysit my nephew every Saturday, and he was addicted to this show.

http://www.peewee.com/

Later on, my own son fell in love with this show (although my daughter didn't like it) and I ended up buying the videotapes. I think in the early 90's, the host, Paul Rubens was arrested for exposing himself in a movie theatre. Ay Carumba.

It's still an excellent children's show, and a few now famous actors got their start on it.

I'll have to dig up the shows from the tinternet and have a look.

They were petrified bless them.

oh i forgot all about gummy bears and i just did a search for the lyrics

Dashing and daring,
Courageous and caring,
Faithful and friendly,
With stories to share.

All through the forest,
They sing out in chorus,
Marching along,
As their song fills the air!

Gummi Bears, bouncing here
and there and everywhere!
High adventure that's beyond compare.
They are the Gummi Bears!

Magic and mystery,
Are a part of their history,
Along with the secret of gummi berry juice.

Their legend is growing,
They take pride in knowing,
They'll fight for what's right
In whatever they do!

Gummi Bears, bouncing here,
and there and everywhere!
High adventure that's beyond compare.
They are the Gummi Bears!

They are the Gummi Bears!

Bagpuss is on Sky every night on Nick Jr at 9.40 PM (Bit daft putting it on that late IMO given that most of the kids who'd watch it are in bed by then)..

8.15 PM oN Nick Jr 2 as well Iirc.

One of mine is Rugrats, my son is watching it now. I used to ask the kids to tell me when it was on. Sad but true!:)

I have a bit of a thing for The Flintstones, watch it all the time on Sky and have the entire first season in my DVD rental list on Amazon, currently got disc 3 of 5 at home.

Main reason is cos I fancy Betty and Wilma, in that order of preferance

Damn, should I really have admitted to that on a public forum?! :help:

No cos it makes you sound incredibly sad. Everyone knows the only cartoon character to fancy is Penelope Pitstop.
