hi
does anyone know where one can take old car tyres for disposal, the dumpit sites won't take them, i was told by staff there to take them to the place on stevenson road where they recycle them but they didn't want to know, unless i had a lorry full of them (i don't, i have about a dozen:( )

any help would be appreciated.

thanks, john.

btw, i realise that i would have to pay to be rid of them:)

Could donate them to a zoo so the chimps could swing in them:)

OR

grow spuds in em.

Get a late cropper and fill one tyre with soil - plant a couple of spuds.

As they grow add a tyre & top up (''earth up'') with more soil.

2 tyres deep should do it - that's 6 planters & a lot of home grown spuds over autumn & winter

Put them to good use, old tyres make lovely 'living flame' necklaces for Gatso and Truvello speed cameras.....(or so it says in the Sun anyway)

Put them in black poly bags with a bit of rubbish on top, take them to the tip and throw them in the skip. It all gets ploughed into the landfill anyway.

This is illegal. And also quite wrong.. Tyres don't decompose.

Best advice is to take them to a tyre fitters (they may charge a couple of pounds for each tyre as they have to pay for the recycling collections).

If this is the case they should not be allowed to make them should they?
It should be the makers responsibility to ensure disposal of them in a proper fashion.
Where I used to work we used to granulate old tyres and make playground mats etc. from them

thanks for your suggestions

i would go with don's idea but there's no room in the garden for all my bonsai trees:(

i'll probably try a tyre company, if there's a small profit in it for them they may take them off my hands:)

regards, john.

This is a sensible contribution:
What about taking them to the top of a hill and rolling them down.
Sheffield has 7 hills you know. :hihi:

At Armthorpe Recycling Centre, they take tyres (along with fridges, washing machines etc) and they don't charge.

I know Doncaster's a bit of a trek but if they'll take them here, there probably will be somewhere in Sheffield too.

Advertise them on your local freecycle - people use them to grow potatoes - www.freecycle.org - not sure if it has .co.uk on the end.
