Why is that all the public toilets in the better areas of Sheffield have been long shut down, yet there are still toilets in the not so good parts of Sheffield (Manor Top and Intake spring to mind) that are still open?

They've turned some that were outside the Hallamshire Hospital into tearooms! Very twee!

I think we should have more public toilets but with attendants and facilities for families. For Dad-Daughter Mum-Son combinations which can cause havoc!

Do you mean Lynn's Pantry? Looks really cool! Didn't know it used to be toilets!

I've heard they've turned some into "luxury" apartments for a mere £1,500 a month. Of particular note are the en-suite facilities. ;)

It's called new Labour.

According to their recent cabinet report 'Closing the Gap' money is to be targeted at the 'right' areas of the city, as far as public services are concerned.

You clearly live in the 'wrong' part of the city.

More blind left wing outdated socialist idiology, that's been holding this city back for so many years.

Someone once told me Mc Donalds do a tax doge where by they register all their toilets as public and therefore get a tax refund.

I don't know for a second if it's true or not but i was using a Mc Donalds Toilet in Leeds when the manager challenged me, when i realled of this semi bull**** story he accepted and let me use them.

When you're down the bottom end of Fargate and bursting for a pee, you're often forced to use loos that you're not strictly supposed to, cos let's face it where else can you "go" short of being arrested for relieving yourself in the street?! (physically impossible for women).

I.E.: "A Mc**** and Lies."

Using a McDonalds toilet and then fabricating an excuse for the benefit of the staff, such as having just eaten there or as above quote.

I note that the word "****" was edited there and the far more offensive term "McDonalds" sailed through unmolested...someone should have words with site admin...

There are 3 main reasons for closing public toilets:
1) The council was saving money
2) Wide spread vandalism
3) The ratepayers appeared to be subsidising "cottaging" as a minority sport. (this may be considered to be a more risky activity at Manor Top and Intake)

I was in a local community group meeting a few years back and had to laugh when the chair got onto the subject of the public loos at Riverlin S bend.

It was the embarassment on his face when he said that they were "keen to see them be demolished as they were, erm, well, being, erm... used... by, erm... queers".

Haha, Silly sod! :D

When did the underpass close near McDonalds at the top of the moor? Don't go down there much! There was some toilets in there wasn't there?
It seem as though there is still an underpass but it's gated off?

The underpass has been shut donkey's years mate.... And to be perfectly honest those loos in the underpass were rather grotty to put it politely.
