Any artists out there? What paint would be best to use on an acoustic guitar? I thought I'd jazz mine up a bit, I tested some oil paint on it lastnight, and it's not even started to dry!! Is it because I mixed 2 colours together (red and white) to make pink? Or is it just not the right paint? I have some acrylic paint, would that be any better?? :help:

its not the right sort of paint artist use oil paints percisely for that reason it takes ages to dry so they can alter a pic or spend ages working on it well thats what i heard lol
try some small pots of gloss or enamel paints you can buy them from hobby shops if your unsure ask a customer service rep
From what I remember - and it's been a while - oil paint can take up to a week to be dry to the touch, depending on how thickly you applied it. It will certainly take a couple of days to dry, and even then it'll still be a bit delicate.
I'm not sure about acrylic paint.
Did you sand the varnish down a bit before you painted the wood? If not, you might find that the paint begins to flake off quite quickly.
It might be a good idea to ask at one of the art shops for their advice.
oil paint doesn't dry it oxidises (different thing ) and on canvas depending on thickness will take about six months to 'dry' if your painting onto a varnished gutair expect to wait a LONG time for oils to 'dry', sand it down and use acrylic paints then wait a few days and spray varnish on to it
I would speak to a gutair shop though as I imagine their are specialised paints for the job.

Bloody eck, I didn't realise it took that long to dry!! I didn't sand it down either, but will wash off what I've done, sand it down, and try my acrylics :)
Thanx you guys!

Make a template & use car spray paints - clean the area of greasy marks first with a baby wipe or summink & let dry.

Could be good, but am planning on doing lots and lots of detail, would be much easier with a brush me thinks. It's my new project, as I'm bored of painting on paper :D
