Remember going down where the Arena is now. A few dozen years ago. What factory was it on the site. It seemed to be derelict for some time.

Hello desy, i am from Darnall and was born on there. i remember that the original broughton lane was further back than now, not much tho'. The original Broughton Lane Bridge has been moved 50 yards approx to the right as you come down from Attercliffe, as you come over the original Broughton Lane Bridge on the left hand side was Kings scrap yard, past that on the same side was the B & C coal yard , next to that was the B & C Dairy which was opposite the Railway Inn which is now the Noose and Gibbet. Futher down was some houses. Behind the B & C Dairy was cartonville Road , all was demolished right upto terry street wreck just to build the arena. [It all seems a lifetime ago that the dairy was standing which was in the early 80's] I used to work at the B&C back in the 70s it was almost my first job from leaving school. The grocery manager at the time was an old guy called Mr Jackson , his office was upstairs just as you walked into the old building where the clocking in machine was. I remember the dairy , coal yard and old stables where horse leathers and rosettes graced the walls , there were huge sewing machines for repairs. Across from the dairy was the grocery warehouse where i worked , upstairs on the top floor was a guy called albert who looked after the butchery department , he had grey hair and walked with a limp. There was a chap called Gilbert who was the Usdaw union representative , i think he had quite a bit to do with the co-op dairy and sports club at shiregreen . I remember a chap from the Darnal area called Tommy Billingsworth and Harry who looked after the fruit and Veg department. I had a moped at the time and remember going round to Sid Smiths on Attercliffe Common , just round the corner from the Broughton Hotel.
