what age do you think is appropriate to have sex at

Depends on the person - theres some people who are pysically and emotionally capable of sex (or more accurately the effects of it!) at less than the current 16 but have met 20+ year olds who are certainly not capable of it!

The main problem with a 16 year age of consent though is that too many people see it as a deadline by which they MUST have sax rather when you start having it!

When you're ready for it !!!!!

Not a glib reply. Some people mature faster than others etc. Whatever, it should never be down to peer pressure.

As Evil and Cols said, when your ready then consider it, turning 16 doesn't mean you have rush now that your a legal eagle in the love world :?

Timing is always a consideration...

In Saying that 12:25pm would be a perfect time for me :D

I was 16 when it happened and I regret it! The earth didnt move and the guy wasnt all that - it was just one of those things, to late to worry as its gone now! I wish I had of waited.

I think people now-a-days give it up to easily!

The age of consent is more a way of protecting minors from sickos such as Caroline Dickinsons killer than anything else. If a couple of 13 year old kids were ready for sex, the law probably wouldn't do anything about it if it ever came out. On the other hand, if a 13 year old girl decided she was ready for sex and bagged herself a paedo, the law should and would come down hard on him.

As do I - I certainly wasn't ready at 16 and am very glad I waited until I was completely ready.

Granted it meant one more reason for the kids at school to take the p*ss, but I'd rather that then regret something that important for the rest of my life!

There's far too much social pressure on people to have sex at too young an age, whether they're ready or not.

The CPS are duty bound to prosecute if they think they can get a conviction. The age limit is no longer appropriate and can easily result in a 15 year old boy having a jail sentence because he had sex with his girlfriend.
It clearly has no effect in protecting girls under that age from paedophiles (who aren't as common as the media would portrey), and it is quite clearly a discriminatory law...

i was just 15 wen i "officially" lost my virginity (long story, dont ask cause i probably wont tell ya) n i dont regret it one bit. I was very sure about it and the guys who i was with i had been going out with for a while, we were best mates before and he kept making sure that it was what i wanted before he even considered it. and even though it didnt exactly "work" between us we are still best mates now!

but then i know many people who know that they aren't ready at 16 going on 17 and even 18 and at the end of the day that is their choice and i think that should be respected. i was talking to one of my mates the other day and she was really against the idea of doing "it" any time soon..

Good replies so far and I agree - its when you are ready.

I started at 14 - ack I wish I had waited but at 14 when its offered I cant imagine most young lads turning it down.

I totally respect people who want to wait, there's no rush.

It protects them by allowing the conviction of men that take advantage of young girls, putting them behind bars where they belong and therefore protecting the girls they prey on.

When you're ready - and ONLY when you're ready; do it too earl, you may regret it. You know what I mean...(?)

I'd say you're ready for sex when you have the spine and character to

a.) Not let someone coax you into it against your will
b.) Have the brains to use a condom or he/she can prove he/she's on the pill; And you will absolutely not engage in it otherwise.
c.) Be with someone who respects you and whom you respect as well, can trust that if the relationship goes foul, which happens often enough, they won't be out to ruin your reputation/life etc.

That's my 2p anyway. I'd daresay, this level of maturity is usually reached sometime between 15 and 21.

Maybe you should seek to improve your writing skills before taking the plunge into a sexual relationship?! ;)

I could also make a jibe involving getting over excited and one handed typing but that would just be tacky....

How are typing skills and sexual maturity in any way linked?

Chris.

I was quite an old maid by todays standards
Never really saw my virginity as such a huge burden and I wasnt among the "in-crowd" who though it was cool to lose it in a back street with some one they've know for half an hour... call me old fashioned but Id prefer a bed :D and with someone Im on first name terms with
Im glad I waited if I had lost it as early as some people have I dont know if I could have dealt with it... I missed out on the teenage fumblings and mess, and because of this I dont have any regrets, fair enough the relationship didnt last but because Id waited I was mature enough to deal with it
