Supposing you were living in the former GDR and you told a joke at the expense of a high ranking member of the ruling Communist party. What do you think would happen to you?

a) You would be publically denounced as an enemy of the people.

b) You would be given a free Trabant as a reward for being so witty and humorous.

c) You would be picked up by the Stasi, taken to the cells and beaten harshly with trunchions.

East Germany was the type of country where if you got a knock on the door late at night you hoped it was Jahovas Witnesses.

BTW - were there ever any attractive women in the GDR or did they all look like Olympic weightlifting champions (which, of course, some of them were).:hihi:

Nothing bad would have happened to you at all !
No-one liked a good joke against himself more than ' Jolly ' Walter Ulbricht . Tell him he was a puppet of the Red Army and the old fellow would have laughed his stocking tops off .
The same , of course , with ' Uncle Fun ' Erich Honoecker ; tears would roll down his face as you told him that you'd seen men on their knees bigger than him .
At the very least you would probably have been awarded a free holiday at a Worker's Camp . There was a really great place near Vladivostok , according to the East Berlin Sun of 20/01/ 1985 .

There was the Russian joke of a soldier who got a 5 year sentence for calling his general an idiot: 3 months for insulting a senior officer and the rest for revealing a state secret. :suspect:
