HI there,

after the thunderstorm of sunday evening, I returned from Meadowhall to find that the flat roof above my upstairs bay was leaking and water was running into my bedroom. Also my porch seemed to be leaking a bit too.

Put a claim in to Norwich Union on my house insurance and they sent an assessor out this morning from Carillion who said it has happened due to wear and tear and basically threw my claim out. As you can imagine I'm well fed up as I have never ever claimed on my insurance before. I could tell the assessor felt sorry for me and he actually told me that if I had been with Eagle Star then I would have got it all done on the insurance because they don't send assessors out at all!

Anyway I've digressed a little - can anyone recommend a reasonable, reliable person who might be able to come and take a look at this for me please!!!

Liz

I'm in exactly the same position.
The Carillion assessor was here a few minutes ago and said the roof was old.
I do get the interior damage repaired though, but have to sort the roof out myself.

ooh that's spooky, I wonder if it was the same bloke? How were we to know the roof was too 'old'? I'll definitely be taking my business elsewhere at the renewal date. Ironically, if I had gone up on the roof myself and put my foot thru it, that would have been an accident and would have been covered!!

Thanks for your replies to my question, I'll be ringing round for quotes this coming week.

Mineral felt roofing does have an expected lifespan of about 10 years.
I've only been in this house for 5, but I suspect that the roof has probably been there for at least 11.
So it's a fair cop.
