Where does this saying come from and why does it happen? Have you experienced this?

I got it every time i was getting ready to play rugby....... that and the constant urge to go to the toilet. Don't know why I got this kind of reaction, something to do with the flow of adrenalin I would have thought.

I've had butterflies for the the past 6 years permanently

But they seem to have come around in leaps and bounds and have been much more active again in the last couple of weeks for some reason- maybe they have been hibernating :hihi:

Butterflies in the stomach, could be worse, it could be a bot fly in the eye : http://www.grafix4me.de/data/media/3/botfly_1.jpg

(NOT for the faint of heart)

I still get it everytime I see my boyfriend  hehe

And when I'm nervous! I took 2 exams a couple of weeks ago and for about 3 days my stomach just felt all tickly and nervous!

Apparently, this is a result of a small "second brain" in the guts nervous system. The link between your brain and this sytem are very closely connected and so when you feel stressed or very excited this has a reaction in your gut.

Not very romantic, but there you go!

Why do you get the squits though ?
What advantage does that give you ?

I don't think it does. It's just a symptom of stress.

Its part of the fight or flight response, lighter body ready for action  oh those wonderful simple cave man days :hihi:
