Banksia   10 #1 Posted June 14, 2004 When I was a kid back in the fifties, I remember a record being played on the radio which was hilarious. Does anyone recall the name of the american comedian who made this recording ? He was supposedly talking to Sir Walter Raleigh on the phone about his discovery of tobacco and potatoes and what you did with them. It really was very funny! Would love to track it down. Can you help guys ?
 Share this content via...
max   13 #2 Posted June 14, 2004 I think it was Bob Newhart from memory and it was probably on "The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart" which went to number 1 in 1960 and won Best Album Grammy the following year.
 Share this content via...
Andyman   10 #3 Posted June 14, 2004 As Max says it is Bob Newhart.  Most of his stuff has recently been released on CD. Any music store should be able to get it for you.
 Share this content via...
Banksia   10 #4 Posted June 14, 2004 As soon as I heard the name Bob Newhart I knew you were correct. Funny how the mind just needs a jog ? Thanks for that ! Now all I have to do is track a copy down, if that's possible.
 Share this content via...

Codfish, The Driving instructor, Abe Lincoln at Maddison Avenue, Marketing Baseball, etc: I just searched them up on WINMX and downloaded them, plus old Comedy recordings by the BBC, Kenneth Horn, Monty Python, Tony Hancock, to many to remember.
