What's happened to the fun fair at Millhouses Park? Will it be returning as the trailers are still parked up, but all the rides etc have been removed?

The lido IMO would these days be an accident waiting to happen with the compensation culture.

the fair's closed because yorkshire water needed to put a huge water-tank (60m X 40m or something) under the car park and fairground. There's already one just next to it, under the cricket pitch, but its no longer big enough due to all the new houses they've been building round there. appareantly if they didn't build it then the park would start flooding every few years.
The fair might be back later this year, but given the efficiency of yorkshire water i'd doubt it.

I have not been to millhouses park in years.
I seem to remember it only been around in the summer or close to it.
Its probably not making enough money anymore for it to be around more than just in the summer if at all. I don't think enough people goto millhouses park anymore.

On the contrary, on sunny days it is crowded as ever, especially now it has a fantastic cafe. Anyone been to one of their bistro evenings? If not, I would heartily recommend it - if you can put up with the six month waiting list.

It's a couple of years since I last went to Millhouses Park.

Have they done anything about the paddeling pools yet? I remember as a kid, going with my parents and grandparents and playing in those paddeling pools. They were so popular that you could often not find space to sit down on the nearby grass.

Seeing them empty and rusiting and full of litter was quite upsetting.

Yeah i remember also going to those paddling pools as a kid, its a shame there have not done anything with them, think alot of kids would play in them on a nice summer sunny day.

Unfortunately the paddling pools will not be reopening due to financial restrictions, due in main to the massive expense assocciated with keeping the water clean. You may notice the orangy stains on the concrete. This is due to - I think - metal deposits seeping down from the land above. The last I heard was that one of the options was to turn them into flower beds or the like.

Our kids used to love those paddling pools, but I think they were eventually shut down because of the health risks posed by rats. Rats would certainly be a problem there with the river so close and people picnicing.

As kids we used to play in the river until chased out by the park-keeper. In those days there was a 'boating lake' where we could sail model boats. Later they put paddle boats on this so kids could play water-borne dodgems.

Don't remember a fun fair at Millhouses when I was a youngster, but there was an annual one in Norfolk Park.

I think that the facilities for children are excellent with some creative and educational concepts. I look back on the days of the open air swimming pool which was not heated and very cold almost all summer.:)

The thread may be 8 years old but it's a great place to take the kids now. They can even wear a pirates hat and hold a sword whilst using the boats at the minute.

It's a shame they did away with the paddling pools, but the kids seem just as happy playing in the water park and climbing on all the rocks.
