Only a few days left. Can't wait. The first one captured that feel of the old Sinbad films (which I adored as a kid). Here's hoping for more of the same.

I don't know about the film, but I am looking forward to Mark Kermode's review of it on Simon Mayo's show (Radio 5) on Friday. His review of the first one was almost the rant of the decade (eclipsed only by his review of 'Sex Lives of the Potato Men').

Johnny Depp... *sigh*

mmmm *sigh* lol

on the subject of P-O-C, last night's Simpsons (the new episode, on sky) had a "boat" theme, and they did a mickey-take of P-O-C. (as well as the "Poseidon Adventure" mickey-take, with "comic book guy" doing the Shirley Winters' "heroic-swim-and then-has-a-heart-attack" scene)

Like Hecate, I'm more interested in Mark Kermode's review than I am in the film.... But I'll inevitably go see it, whatever Mr Kermode says about it being the death of narrative structure.

Narrative structure has no place in a pirate film! We want Action; Adventure; Gorgeous Men! (and Gorgeous Women for the guys!) :D And lots of sword fights! :hihi:

After seeing the film I can safetly say "Wow!" and "Grrrrrr!" The first is my response to a film which is two and a half hours long, yet flows so well that you don't notice, packed with great humour, action, and effects. The second is at having to wait a year now for the third film after seeing a cliffhanger ending that 24 would be proud of!!

Wonderfully enjoyable.

A quick note for cinema affectionados: Cineworld has the film in the 'big three' screens, but also has a digital copy in Screen 17. As the first effects driven film we have got in digital it is safe to say you can really tell the difference.

I thought it was a worthy enough sequel...but bear in mind it is only half a story (being a two parter this time). The negative reviews I've seen tend to moan about this as the film doesn't feel whole.

The same sense of fun as the first, and effects which outshine the 'skeletons by moonlight' of the first. Once again I was reminded of being a kid and watching Jason & The Argonauts, and other such films.

Another one of the reasons for the negativity from some people is the extremely high expectations everyone has about it. The first film came from nowhere ("A film based on a theme park ride??? That's gonna be rubbish!" was an oft heard quote), so the film stunned, surprised, and wowed praactically everyone. This time around everyone has their own idea as to what should happen, and what they want....and there are a few who watched it last night who were disappointed in the direction the characters were taking.

The majority of the staff who saw it gave it a huge thumbs up, and can't wait until part 3.

I've just come back from a showing at Meadowhall, pretty good film IMO, although not enough shots of Kiera Knightley in tight corsets

Would have to be tight to get a figure off the poor woman! You'd get better curves putting an ironing board in a tight corset.

Someone give her a large Full English very soon before she falls down a crack in the pavement.

I highly recommend listening to the good Dr Kermode's review (http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/entertainment/kermode.shtml) of Pirates II. Even though he apparently morphed in Ben Elton circa 1989 at one point, he had me doing this: :D and this: :hihi: . Listen out especially for the bits about the spectacularly bad acting of Orloondo Bland...

i've promised i'll take my nephew to see this, has anybody got any recommendations for fairly peaceful cinemas ?, without too many kids chatting or throwing stuff, as i end up wanting to throw them all out myself:help:

probably a tall ask being as i'll have to go out of school hours

It got absolutely caned by the panel on Newsnight Review last night; amongst other things the panellists found it extremely racist. And yes, I liked the bit about Orloondo Bland :hihi:

Planning (hoping) to see this early tomorrow! I hope everyone's still in bed cause I want me fave seats right in the middle of the flicks! And no five year olds or I'll string 'em up like real pirates. Arrrr!

Anyway, erm, calm down...

I don't give a stuff what the critics think of this film - it has Pirates, more specifically, Jack Sparrow, and that beats any misery fest about war torn Africa or ruddy middle class hand wringing film any day; these are the only films that critics like, which is why I mostly ignore what they say.

Critic = Cynic.

Keith Richards Style pirates + sword fights + tall ships =

If the reactions of the plentitude of people who were packing our 7 (count em) screens of Pirates all day today are anything to go by, the critics are so far out of touch with the audience on this one. What a shock eh?

I've noticed a trend in recent years with movie critics whereby one or two influential critics in the US slate a film, or praise one, and all the rest of the major critics jump on the bandwagon. Sadly this fad has now affected the UK where it seems no-one is prepared to stand alone on a review, and you will see the same gripes and moans printed over and over again (or indeed the same praise as was the case with Star Wars Revenge of the **** [sic] last year when every critic spent pages gushing over Lucas' CGI fest).

Hence I don't care what critics say...I will make my mind up myself (and if people want to know my views on films, they can always check out www.filmfile.co.uk ).

It's great, go and see it now!

I mean, it had more plot holes than a ruddy fishing net and Orli was over-acting as ever, but this does not matter as there's never a dull moment and there were some great little twists. ;) Some great long shots with the ships too.

Loads of kids sat by us and I groaned, but they were watching all the way through, they loved it, and the bunch of 'lads' on t'other side were loving it too. Today's cinema pr*ck was the balding middle aged man and his bubble perm wife behind who kept kicking the backs of the seats and eating junk food with all the manners of truffle pigs.

Was heaving in there when we came out, so everyone might well have seen it by next weekend.

Me,Mrs Heed and te kids went last night and we all thought it was great.

And in the true spirit of Jack Sparrow, when it ended,we turned to each other and said "bugger", becuse we have to wit while May now for the next one.

I went to see it last night (Not by choice), It felt like I was watching an over-expensive, half-arsed Carry-On film. I was expecting Kenneth Williams to come on at any moment saying he was looking for The Black Fingernail. I admit it was starting to get better towards the end.
Depp looked like a lost Soul in parts, other times he was totally stealing the show. Bloom & Knightley's were totally wooden, and I was expecting better. The real star of the the film, I thought was Jonanthan "Jumpin Jack Flash" Pryce who should have had more screen time.

Squeee!!!
Went to see it last night! AMAZING!
Really ticked off that they left it at the point which they did! Ghar! What a bl**dy cliffhanger!!!
And Jack! Cap'n Jack! Gorgeous as ever. Love his new entrance, though I'm not sure it measures up to his original with the sinking ship...heheheheheee!!!
Favourite bit was definitely, (not wanting to spoil it for anyone, so I'll just comment for people in the know...)

ITS BOBBINS!

Another film that could have been great but lacks the comedy from the first bit and it just didnt seem family orientated anymore to me.

It was a right mess- Johnny Depp was strangely off form as well I thought and I thought Orlando Bloom and Keira were a bit naff as well.

Best bit was the ending and who stepped down the stairs at the en!!!

i felt let down by the film... for 2 and a half hours very little actually happened! and it wasent so much a cliffhanger as the film just stopped.

i'll no doubt go see the next one....but this installment had little story or direction.

its bobar IMO.
too long, booooooooooring, cliched script, johnny seen it all last time depp (so he's attractive, doesn't mean he hasn't done some turkeys, are we really so shallow, does attractive male/female lead mean quality doesn't matter...? it does? oh must be just me then...
keira = is just a skinny girl with an 'proper' english accent (oh that must mean she can act then) who can't do any scene in any film/have her photo taken without having her mouth open and her bottom lip out (watch - once you've noticed, you can't not see it)
orlando - never really done anything better than LOTR and he's not the world's best actor lets face it...
saving grace is Davy Jones, a good old fashioned baddy.....
get it on dvd, don't waste money on the cinema tickets.
