does any one know of any good cheap or free days out with kids?
a good place i can recommend is hemsworth water park near barnsley. It's great,it's like a beach cos there is water to play in with sand round the edge, there's boats,a park and a pub.We always take a picnic.you only pay to park the car which is only a pound or two.Its a really nice place to spend the day.
has anyone else got any ideas?

There's always the beautiful Rivelin Valley and it's right on our doorstep. There's the nature trail, park and paddling pools and it's all free. It's a beautiful place just to go for a walk and a picnic.
Greaves Park is another great place to go with the Rare Breeds Centre. All kids love animals and there's the playground there too.
My kids always like the Millenium Galeries in town too. Often we'll go there, have a look round, take a picnic and sit in the Peace Gardens for a while. Take a towel as the fountains are just too tempting for young (and big) kids!!

Paddling pools at Rivelin... Aye, when they're open! Like the Lido over at Millhouses they get vandalised a lot so they're regularly shut for repairs :loopy:
Don't the chavs realise that the pools are there for THEIR benefit? And that when they vandalise them, they are taking THEIR facilities away?! :loopy:

Yes it has, the right hand entrance to the Broadfield Pub has been called The Zoo for years lol.
Hardly somewhere youd take your kids though...unless they were being punished for something anyway.
I've just come back from Endcliffe Park where lots of people take their kids on Sundays. There aren't loads of attractions but there is a kids playgound, ponds, a great cafe, loos, and loads of space to run about/play football/whatever. You can also walk out through the neighbouring parks and there is a cycle path too.

There's a fair in Endcliffe at the mo.
It'll be packed, I know, but Padley Gorge?
Or...there's this lovely little picnic spot with river/streams to play in on the steep hill between Hathersage and Grindleford. You have to walk up the hill and go along a short walk through some fields, turning off past a farm. You so won't be able to find it from those directions! Lovely place anyway.
Is the open air swimming pool at Hathersage still open? It'll be chocker while the chavs are off but it might be worth a punt...
