I have noticed there doesn't appear to be any suppliers of childrens clothing for the larger than average child. So the larger child either has to have clothes that are larger in age or length to accomodate, or wear baggy clothes to accomodate.
Adults don't have that problem as there are differing sizes.
As I have this problem with my young daughter I thought its about time someone did something about it.
I would like to set a website up which has fashion clothes for larger children, maybe shipped from USA or if a UK company would be willing to make them, I think it would get a lot of business with the right kind of advertising.
My problem is I don't have the funds & wouldn't know where to start to get the funds to start & don't have colateral. I do however have a good business mind & consider my self hard working & passionate about what I do. I would be fine speaking to potential suppliers & clients & drawing up a business plan.
I'm not sure if I'm having visions of granji (sorry if spelled wrong) so I would therefore like everyones opinions, ideas & advice.

Have you tried the Princes trust. Its a charity that run by HRH Prince of Wales and offers loans and startup grants and advice. I used them to help me setup my company in back in Birmingham and they were of great help.
Best of luck

SENTA and Business Link South Yorkshire may be of some assistance. However, I would imagine (and Im saying this as a parent rather than having any "proper" knowledge of the market) that it is pretty saturated particular with supermarket brands. I think it could be a very specialist market and wonder if people would be willing to pay extra as I would imagine that you will unable to have the buying power of the major retailers. I really dont want to put the mockers on things but it may be worth doing some market research in the first instance

I agree, market research is the essence of a business idea, that is why I have posted on the general threads also. I know what market research is all about, I have done it before. Unless you have a child with a weight problem I don't think you can really appreciate the problems we come across.
As well as getting the general publics opinion I would also contact companies especially USA companies that already do this.
But I appreciate what you are saying that is why I don't want to go into this venture withoue fully understanding what I will be up against.

I didnt mean that I didnt appreciate it as a problem, merely that I wondered how big the market was out there which of course would be gathered through market research as we have said

Personally I would spend the extra to get nice fashionable clothes for my daughter.
I already go to the more expensive places to buy her clothes, just because they do tend to be slightly more generous.
I also tend to waste a lot of money on clothes because I think the clothes I buy will be fine (even when she's tried them on) but when she wears them, they are tighter than I thought etc.
Or if she hasn't tried them on & they don't fit I don't always get the time to take them back so give them away.
Hi
Give SENTA a call on 0114 281 4621 or 0800 377 73 73 and arrange to speak with a business advisor to discuss your idea. We're open Mon - Fri 9 - 5 and Wednesaday evenings for appointments.
As you say there is a gap in the market so the question you need to answer now is ..... is there a market in the gap?
Our advice, training and support is free of charge and we can help you locate any potential funding you may be eligible to apply for.
Prince's Trust is 18 - 30 years so unless you are under 31 you won't be eligible for this, but if you are we can give you information and put you in touch with the local PT advisor.
We work in partnership with the Prince's Trust and Business Link South Yorkshire. SENTA is also part of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and the South Yorkshire International Trade Centre, so we can provide import information too.
Good Luck!
