About two weeks ago. From Kenwood? Have always heard them round Sharrow.
Years ago there was once one hooting away on a chimney pot.

A few months back there was one making noise in the day near work.
Seems to have realised that it was up at the wrong time though as i've not heard it since.

Every night and morning at the moment, at night they are obviously hunting and screach real loud. Near my sister in laws there is really huge Owl that sits on a fence most on Briars Lane, we see that most Sundays at the moment

We hear them all the time out here - I don't understand how anyone can be irritated by the noise. It's wonderful to have them so close.

Two guys were walking through the woods late at night when they heard a blood curdling noise.
The first guy says 'what was that?'
The second guy say 'it was an owl'
The first guy says yes I know, but 'oo 'owled? :hihi:

Used to be my dads favourite joke :D

Back to the OP - we quite often here an owl round here (Greystones S11)

Lots at the end of the season, and many times throughout. Copious wailing and moaning noises. I doubt little will change over the coming mounths, but I hear that the singing at the other side of the City is far more boyant:wink:
C'mon you Blades:thumbsup:
Otherwise, living just off Leppings Lane, backing onto the Don, it seems we have a resident owl who truely has something to shout about.
And the little ******* always decides to announce it's presence when I'm trying to get to sleep!:rant:

Sure there used to be one in the next door neighbours pear tree before it came down a few years back....

Only ones I hear these days constantly go on about the size of their crowds and that they are a 'bigger' club, or was that pigs.... hmmm.....

So is ours, but the dawn chorus is at 5am at the moment, which means I have to stumble out of bed and shut the window on the rowdy little critters  :)

We have been up Bradfield tonight, and we saw a Little Owl, it was sitting on a wall about 6ft. from us, then it flew on to a telegraph pole, and we watched it through the binoculars, its the first time I have seen a Little Owl.

Owls around Leppings lane? Very apt! There's two around there, you can often hear a call and response late at night. The traffic and barking dogs already keep me awake but I find the owls soothing.

Speaking of owls; What's the difference between an England striker and a constipated owl?

Well, an England striker shoots but can't hit....

Yes, I feel this is also usual behaviour of an owl!

The last time I heard an owl was nightly on holiday in Snowdonia (end of May). It was a tawny owl, and it's very distinctive hoot emanated from the wood opposite our holiday cottage.

I heard a male one hooting in the early hours of the 18th of April. I know it was this day as I was going into hospital later that day to have my baby delivered by caesarean.
It was a good omen.

I live at Ranmoor in a flat with a huge garden at the front and there is always an owl screaching at night. They tend to screech around 9 or 10 at night. Lovely creatures.

Hi,

I was very lucky to see a Tawny Owl yesterday evening at about 11pm. He swooped down in front of the car on Whiteley Lane at the junction with Whitley Lane.

Very pretty!

I saw one in broad daylight at the weekend. I was walking through Sunnybank at Broomhall and one flew down from a tree towards something in the undergrowth, about 15 feet away from me. I was thrilled. I don't know what type - it was all brown. Its huge head looked bizarre on a flying bird.

We have an owl hooting every night in the garden - i haven't seen it yet but then i have only been out to look once - it only arrived about three months ago and drives my son nuts - it doesn't stay for long about an hour then it goes quiet - we do have a nest in one of the tree but it doesn't look big enough to be an owls nest and then i'm not sure how big an owls nest needs to be - i don't know where it goes after its hooted in our trees for an hour or why it comes back every night.

Might get the spot light out tonight and go have an investigate - would be cool to see it but then i like it visiting and don't want to frighten it away.

never thought i'd ever have an owl visit.

On the down side our resident moggy who seemed to prefer us to its owner has been missing for 4 days and we suspect its been killed - either that or they have gone on holiday and its residing elsewhere - i'm missing someone else's moggy - how sad.

There's been one every year in the trees just over the road from where I live. Dont seem to recall having heard it yet this year but could be I've just not been listening out for it.

I often see and hear owls when i take the dog for a walk at night. We have 2, possibly 3 owls around here. They seem pretty confident as well. One was on top of a telegraph pole the other night and didn't mind me or the dog walking right up to it.
