View Full Version : Switching Gas & Electricity Supplier?
We are about to move house and thought it would be a good time to look at moving the gas & electricty supplier, as a way to save some money. I'm not sure how easy this will be, or whether it's a worthwhile thing to do. Has anyone else done this recently, or know of any good deals etc?
Advice would be appreciated, it seems a bit of a minefield out there!
Many thanks.
I moved this last week there are lots of sites out there like uswitch and moneysavingsexpert.com that will guide you through the process.
I personnallt went with Equigas/power on dual fuel - worked out a lot better than Scottish Power I was on... and they planted trees for me for signing up.
banesmabes 04-07-2006, 12:52 I've changed a couple of times over the last few years and always gone through USwitch.com
The only problem I experienced was with my old gas supplier, British Gas. They claimed not to have received my final meter reading and so used an estimated reading. And what do you know, they'd estimated I'd used more than twice the gas I actually had used!
Other than this the change over is smooth. Your new supplier will arrange everything with your old supplier - you don't even have to contact them. The new supplier will tell you what date they will start supplying you from and you need to take meter readings on that date and give them to your new supplier, who will pass them onto your old supplier.
A few weeks later you should get final bills from your old supplier, and if they owe you any money they will forward a cheque. Remember to check that the meter readings used by your old supplier are the same as those you gave on the day of the change-over - if they're not then kick up a fuss!

I switched through USwitch and had no problems at all. I'm with EDF energy as they were the best supplier at the time I applied to switch. You'll find that there isn't a big difference in price between the top 5 suppliers. Just make sure you take accurate meter readings to avoid any problems.
thanks, that's a big help, will get some quotes in.

You will find that EDF are not the best supplier they have just increased their gas prices by 19% from 31 July 2006 - the only reason why you see EDF at the top of Uswitch website is because EDF give Uswitch £15 Million each year - so u will find that you are probably paying more - British Gas have a new product called Fix and Fall where they will guarentee no more price rise until 2009 but they will actually reduce your prices in 2007

That's weird, just done a search on Uswitch saying I was a Powergen customer using all accurate details and EDF wasn't even on the list of results!! I'd rather use gas created from animal dung, straw and water (bio-gas) than switch to British gas with their price hikes..British Gas had a monopoly for years before competition so basically they were ripping people off for years and no one had no option. Some things never change.
Atlantic electric and gas was at the top of the list of results, not heard of them but they were the cheapest, like I said on my post EDF was the cheapest at the time!

British Gas are THE most expensive of all suppliers out there, it's impossible not to save money by switching gas suppliers from British Gas.

Now, have you got any sources that supports your theory that EDF are always at the top because of the amount of money they are giving? :P
