Anyone out there fancy having a go at table tennis?
I remember how much fun it was when I was little (not mega loads of years ago) and would like to have another crack at it. I think I know where I could play but I would need a partner. If anyone is interested post a message and I'll respond next time I check in.

Thanks

I would be up for that. If you know where to get a game then let me know.

As long as you don`t have to be really good at it, I fancy a go at it.

I went down to the Table Tennis club the other night. Here’s the crack.

To join the club will cost £10.

Equipment
Here is how I interpreted the advice I was given. Good bats cost £60. +. You should get a OK blade if you spend £15-£20 but you will need to replace the rubber with good stuff this will cost £60+. Cheep option, buy a second hand one.

Thanks

Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre at Norton has tables.

Thanks for the info Mikey. It’s a bit to far out of the way for me though. I was thinking more central to Sheffield.

If anyone is interested in going along to the club I found near Hillsborough let me know. You won’t need to join the first couple of times you go.

Is there any place for children to play table tennis in Walkley or Crookes?
Many thanks.

Depending on how old the kids are look for a local youth club/community centre. It's normally one of the activities that they run.

To receive proper coaching you are best off taking your child to one of the clubs affiliated to the Hallam Table Tennis League. A list of clubs that offer coaching is available by visiting www.hallamtabletennis.co.uk - I'd post the link direct to the coaching page but the site is down for the moment.

There are clubs based at Crookes and Lower Stannington but I would advise the best coaching is available at Abbeydale or the sessions that are held at the English Institute of Sport.

Just been back on the Hallam Table Tennis League website and the coaching page doesn't list the numbers I thought it would. If I can remember, when I get home I'll dig out my handbook and post the relevant names/numbers here later.

Many thanks.

The boy is 9 years old. I would like him to play in Walkley or Crookes cause he maybe go to the club on foot. He had played tabletennis in a club in China for more than one year( every day afternoon after the school is over) before he comes to Sheffield.
I think either community centre or club is ok for him to play only for physical exercise.

so thank you for providing any clues here.

Wadsley Bridge Table Tennis Club is based at the Mousehole Forge - Malin Bridge. This club has three tables serving seven senior and two junior teams.
There are two Saturday morning coaching sessions for young people aged 10 - 15 years.
For full contact details refer The Hallam Table Tennis web site.

Does anyone know of any Table Tennis clubs (ideally in the S10 or S11 area) that are looking for new members?

I enjoy the game, but am still a rookie, so preferably one that has/caters for a wide range of ability!

Been looking for somewhere regular to play myself. I'm an 'intermediate' player I guess, played in a few leagues before and would like to play for a club in Sheffield next season.
I've recently been told there's coaching at Don Valley, Institute of Sport. They're listed as being an ETTA 'Premier' club, so must be something good going on there. I'll catch a tram there sometime and check it out, but bit too busy atm. Go and let us know what it's like

My Dad is retired now and needs to get out more (that's my opinion anyway :)) Does anyone know where he could play some ping pong in Sheffield with other over 60 year olds. He has the ability to challenge a younger foe but it's nicer to knock around with your own generation.

Hoping you can point him in the right direction.

Many thanks - Hutch

Hi, if he can find a partner then you can hire tables at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, I think it's £5 for 45 mins. You can hire em for 2 sessions in a row though!

Hallam Grange TTC are always looking for new members of all abilities. Based just off Fulwood Road, practice nights are on mondays with 6 teams entered in the Sheffield League.
If you are a novice looking for a new hobby, a player looking for a new club, or a former player wanting to dust off the old bat (!) - contact Ian on 2654472.

Where exactly is it (ie, is it the Broomhill end) and what divisions do they cover?
Thanks.

Clubhouse is on Slayleigh Lane, Fulwood S10.
Up Fulwood Road (past Rising Sun and new tesco on left), turn right up Stumperlowe Lane, take left fork up Slayleigh Lane, Hallam Grange LTC is set back on right hand side about 100 yards past where road narrows.
Teams in divisions 2, 4, 6 and 7.

Thanks. Looks a bit of a walk, but I'll definitely check it out. I've gone to Crookes a few times, but nearly all the usual players seem to be off on summer holiday or something, so it's not on every week atm. Do you happen to have an address for Rivelin as well? I've been told that's not too far.
Hopefully if I get work over the summer I'll be able to afford a car, so won't be so limited if/ when I play in the league. Want to get back into the sport :)

SilentStatic

Wouldn't the summer league be nearly over? Where do you live daffin?

I've been checking out different clubs since I've graduated, trying to find a winter team. Will probs be playing for Wadsley Bridge in STTL - I'll know for definite in a week.
(don't think I'll be doing your 'social' thingy, unless it's nearby, ie in S10)

*edit* - that Grantham thingy - is that the same place as where they had/ have junior 3* tournaments? Entered one of those (a while back, obv), reaching second round and quarterfinal, but sadly didn't make it onto the rankings. Won one of those matches via DQ, which was rather amusing...

i ant a clue. i live in chesterfield and i play the chesterfield league and they dont have a summer league. when i used to play sheff summer league used to be around this time.

no the 3* is at the leisure centre. The academy is at the college we do a course and we train 3 hours a day and stop in the college halls. brad billingtons the coach. (u may have heard of him)

SilentStatic

I joined Wadsley bridge last week. Dunno which division I'll be in though - I'll just take what I'm given.

The summer league is almost over now - are you looking to play in our winter league as well? I used to play at the same place (not usually the same time!) as the national academy in Nottm. Yeah course I've heard of BB, but let's not get into a name dropping competition as we'll look too sad and geeky :P
Sounds like you're a better player than me anyway, I've only just started practising again.

For the beginners who asked: try the Institute on Wednesdays, 7:30.

Have you tried Abbeydale Squash/Tennis Club ? I think that they used to have a table tennis team.
I used to play years ago, and Sheffield used to have lots of different clubs with teams at very different levels of ability. I was not that good, and played for a couple of years in teams.

Good Luck
