MissGobby 03-07-2006, 16:04 Someone at work is offering £150 for a Tom Tom, selling due to her husband getting one with works car!
she said he paid £275 for it 3 months ago!!
how reliable are Tom Tom's, and do you think it is a good price??
ta xx
Gobby: You will get better advice on a dedicated Sat Nav forum.
I recommend this one:

My Dad got his from Curry's on Meadowhall Retail Park, £150 for a Packard Bell one.
It's pretty good as well.
weenireeni 03-07-2006, 16:31 my boyfriend has gps receiver and uses tom tom on his phone. is your phone a 'symbian' model? if so the gps is only £50 off ebay.....
fnkysknky 03-07-2006, 16:47 Buy a map for a tenner and/or print the directions off multimap.

Tom Tom's are the best on the market. Don't whatever you do go with the sony one. Me and 2 other forummers trialed one and it was useless.

Sony products = over-rated, crap, but loved up by daft fanboys who fall for marketing ploys targeted at idiots.
Sony Ericcson phones are rubbish, and don't even get me started on how pants the Playstation console brand is.
doncorleone1 03-07-2006, 17:49 tom tom's are the best, very easy to use £150 is a decent price i reckon. I can prob get u the tom tom go 300 or the tom tom one for bout £100
MissGobby 04-07-2006, 11:08 Purchasing the TOM TOM from a work mate tomorrow for £140, cant wait  lol

Oh, right, so now, as well as having half the population that don;t know anyone's phone numbers any more (including their own!) cos they are stored in their mobile - we are now going to have a generation of people who don't know where the f**k anywhere is, or where they've been through on the way to get there!
Jesus - is everybody going brain dead? Get a Road Atlas - garages sell them for £3.50 - it's cheaper and just as easy - and you can choose which way to go, instead of being the brainless slave of as computer gadget!

id rather be brainless than braindead - usual circumstance of people navigating with maps on their knees whilst driving, apart from breaking the law if reading directions whilst driving.
got sat nav in car & one on my mobile, wouldn't be without one now

MissGobby 04-07-2006, 13:00 Yeh tell me about it, i got directions from my fiance when i went to see him without the sat-nav and i got lost, i was so scared, iwas on my own and had no way of knowing where i was, with the sat-nav it is absolutly perfect, got me there and back straight away, no getting lost or anything!!! best thing they ever invented
BTW Don, where on earth can you get on "in a few hours" ?? lol

 very good point willman
even with a road atlas your still taking "directions" from something, its just that is made of paper and its not computerised, and with a sat nav you can also get alternative routes and be informed of any traffic accidents while on the move, a bloody road atlas cant do that:wink:

We were in Pembrokeshire week before last, and my Dad's Sat Nav hates the place, took us everywhere but where we wanted to go, and always the LOOOONG way round.
Otherwise, Dad wouldn't be without it for his work and stuff.
Cardboard 04-07-2006, 15:47 Im borrowing a friends sat nav to take me to wales and back. never used one before. How reliable are they? Dont they take you down one way streets and dirt tracks or something!?
Iv always used a map before but fancied trying this out to see how it goes.
Does anyone have any comical stories of routes a GPS system has taken you on?...

cgksheff 04-07-2006, 20:40 Try using a "SAT-NAG"!
I have one. It sits in a passenger seat and says:
"you should have turned off there"
"is this the right way"
"aren't you going a bit fast?"
"why has that man got a blue light?"
I borrowed a mates Tom Tom to try it out......brilliant piece of kit.
Spent the evening googling for the best price.
Will be ordering on pay day.
Just a word of warning to all Sat Nav owners - make sure you remove the system and the cradle from your car before you leave it. Right now according to the police they are the thing that gets stolen the most !
I think it'll not belong before car insurance company's refuse to cover them or charge extra on the policy.
Yep. Don't even leave the cradle in sight even if you remove the sat nav, or else you'll probably lose a side window when they look to see if you're the lazy sort that just "hides" it in the glovebox
Makro have a decent offer on a Navicore sat-nav for approx £130, I used it and thought it was good. However it was not as user friendly as Tomtom which I have since purchased from www.globalpositioningservices.co.uk (Tomtom 510 cost me for £320).
Heeley tyke 03-02-2007, 00:47 I have used Tom-Tom sat-nav systems and not very impressed.
I bought a Blue Media sat-nav and haven't found one to touch it.
ChrisTodd 03-02-2007, 07:27 Make sure you remove all traces of the Sat Nav from your car everytime you leave the car, especially if you leave your car on Tapton House Road.
Every week at least one car is broken into on Tapton House Road in Broomhill, presumably for the Sat Nav's.
whitewitch 03-02-2007, 10:32 garmin sat navs are great, so easy to use:)
