My life flashed before my eyes earlier this evening!
My partner was driving my daughter & me down Longley Avenue West around 7pm, when we saw at the top of the hill a silver Nissan Primera speed at around 80mph over the hill. Its wheels didn't even touch the ground it was going that fast. There was about 6 youths in the car & they lost control driving towards the tip. We were coming in the opposite direction. If it wasn't for the quick thinking of my partner, pulling up & in before the tip I wouldn't be opening this thread now.
If my partner had carried on at our normal speed not noticing the car we would all be dead including the people in the Primera.
My 8 year old daughter & I screamed as if it was our last & when we arrived home 10 minutes later our hearts were stil beating as if we'd just completed the marathon.
Why do they do this? If they want to dice with death why put others lifes at stake. Take up white water rafting or mountainering.
I had to phone the police, although I suspect nothing will be done about it but at the speed they were going someone was gonna get hurt eventually, I felt I had to do all to prevent this.

Absolute tits.

I was driving towards Norton this afternoon, and 3 lads and 2 lasses in the drivers mums red fiesta were driving about a meter off my bumper.

The lad driving looked no older than 12.

He was flashing his lights, and either had some sort of siren fitted, or he had made a CD with siren sounds on it.

Needless to say I didn't pull up for the "police" man.

Rather gave him the finger, and pretended I wanted to race at a roundabout, as he nearly span it off round the bend.

Natural selection at the best.

If you live round Longley like me, you may have noticed a complete tool speeding about in a cinquecento going laps around the park trying his hardest to amuse everyone walking past. However, last time I saw his car it was parked on the pavement on Newhall Road with "PTC <pitsmoor twocker crew>" smeared into the bonnet.

It's bad when young kids make modding cars and tuning them a bad thing for us older lot.

These kids will have only just past their test, and find fun in speeding untill they grow a little older and realise the cost of driving fast earns u a trip to the petrol station daily.

Its the same every night lately. Theyve obviously got nothing better to do. If they crash and kill themselves, theyve only got themselves to blame. It probably wouldnt cross their immature, pathetic little minds that they may take other innocent people with them.

Police-this is a major problem on this road. Please do something before someone gets killed. Its a matter of when, not if.

think the driving limit should be put up to 30+as there are no mature young people anymore just idiots who see driving as a way of scareing people to death....(IDIOTS)...

Passed their test? I would very much doubt it. Since when did they have to have a license to get behind a wheel. They don`t operate by normal rules.

:rant:Some of these kids are 11 years old! Nothing can happen to them if they get caught, thats the problem! If they knew that they might go to prison (or Butlins as some people call it these days) the first time they get caught doing this or anything else that breaks the law, they MAY think twice, or maybe not.
Their parent(s) have to accept some responsibility for their kids actions. Knowing where they are and what theyre up to is simple, but affective IMO. Some of these kids parents are as bad, if not worse, than the kids sometimes!

it won't cut joyriding out completely but we're hoping itll at least prevent some from joyriding it's going to be used in schools all over the uk hopefully, the launch for it is tuesday watch out for info about the production in local press.

I read this in todays Star. Well done to those young people who have done this. Hopefully it does make a difference, if it stops one 'child' from 'joyriding', then its served its purpose.

you cant just put all the blame on them, has i used to hang around with these lads, we used to buy cars for £50 or less of ppl in ad mag or anywhere really, the ppl sellin the cars must know, that their not legal or anything there not even puttin right names down on log books. Would you sell your car to a group of lads who look young and for £50 cos u know what their intensions are gonna be, it partially there fault as well.

The whole issue needs looking at really. Where the cars are from, either bought cheaply or stolen, the powers of the police and the courts, and sentences for committing the offences.
Ill assure you there will be a crash on Longley Avenue West sooner rather than later if it isnt stopped now.
The area could do with a kerfew to be honest.

all under 16 do have a cerfew for nine oclock but that doesnt stop them, my brother has got one for ten oclock and police found him down road at about 11 and give him a producer thats all he was on foot and they just searched him. Even though he has had to sign a form with the police and housing that hed be in and stay outta trouble but nothin has come bk on that

lisalee

Not all areas have the kerfew. And the police apparently havent got the resources or money to enforce the areas that do have.

Its about time they changed the law regarding the age limit and size of cars for learners who have just pasted there test. Bikers get limited regarding what they can drive pity it doesn't include cars.

Actually it has happened. I used to live on longley ave west. One day, a lad who was a one man crime wave was on a stolen motorbike. Overtaking a bus on the inside at the bottom of longley ave west and the junction of penrith road. The lad intended to go straight on after this overtaking procedure. The number 33 turned left! .....The one man crimewave died a horrible death.

It was about 15 years ago. One of the police attending said it would reduce crime in the area by about 50%.......Nice lad!:hihi:

If there's idiots like this then write to your MP. I live off Abeeydale Road and have done just that. The idiots screaming up and down in Evos and Imprezas need locking up. The cars clearly aren't stolen, but they drive like idiots. Three went past my partner and I the other day, clearly doing 70/80mph past Oddbins (which is a 30 area). I've written to the local MP and to the council about it. They'll kill someone one day, and chances are it won't be them. Unfortunately.

Apparently, the council are putting speedbumps on Shirecliffe Road, which is another notorious racetrack, just like Longley Avenue West.
Theres a new primary school being built in that area as we speak( Entrances to the school are on Shirecliffe Road and Longley Avenue West). How long is it going to be until a child is hit by one of these speeding morons, going or coming home from the new school when it opens in September?
I wonder if theres plans for speedbumps on Longley Avenue West? Does anyone think theyll make a difference?

Having recently been a witness to a death by dangerous driving court case of late which happened on Shirecliffe Road, the speed bumps are not before time!

don't tarnish everyone with the same brush! I am a mature young person that has to put up with the idiots driving round too. You can't just generalise people like that!

Longley Avenue West is a problem and as a young person and driver who has to live there I would be happy to see a 20mph limit enforced

although crime was reduced it is unfair to snigger at the situation. A loss of life is not a funny thing.

I watched a programme on tv about so called 'boyracers' most of them didn't even have a licence.

They say that the most fatal accidents involve young drivers but they probably take into account those who have no licence etc as well.

You can't tar those who have paid for lessons, a car and insurance with those that don't have none of the above and take other peoples!

Is the kerfew in southey/longley?

Dont think theres a kerfew in either of those areas. The only place i know of that has/had one is Shiregreen. The police put them in place for a while, they obviously work, but then they stop it! And gues what, the yobbos return and the areas back to square one.

Longley Avenue West is a disgrace. The amount of anti-social behaviour lately is horrendous, something needs doing about it, and quick. Its just a matter of time till something major happens.

Weekends are the worst, the joyriders come out in force, as do the eejuts who cause havoc. Id kerfew the whole area, permanently.

There's nothing whatsoever your MP can do about it. All they will do is to refer it through to your local neighbourhood polcing team, which is something you can do yourself. It will help if you can identify the person involved, registration numbers, details of the bike, etc, to help them do their job.
