I had a wander around comet the other night whilst the SO went into hobby craft.
Perusing the LCD and plasma tv section I was making comparisons of image quality compared to price, sizing up a potential future purchase.
The panasonic lcd's with the ambilight feature were by far and away the best quality image, extremely sharp and very bright and great contrast.
Not sure whether the ambilight thing is worth anything or not, but it's a nice talking point i suppose, like modern art.
Has anyone else got an opinion on the panasonic range and their quality?
...the Ambilight screens are Philips not Panasonic....

Some of them do get good reviews though.
Good point;
42" hd ready digital lcd tv
Product code 325430
MASSIVE 42" HD ready LCD TV with integrated Freeview tuner - watch the World Cup in all its glory on this top spec TV Special online price
£3495.00
£3499.99
Store price £3499.99
You could buy two lesser 42" lcd's for that price though. The quality was impressive, but i'm not sure if it's worth double the other screens...
The cheapest alternative is £1200... and for £2500 you can get a 50" lcd...
Eek! 42" I'd probably still go for plasma at the moment....waiting for SED to finally be released as well as some other competitors I reckon :D
I mean 42" for plasma, 37" would be LCD.
Don't buy the cheap models like the £800 42" plasmas cos they're ****e to put it in stars ;)
I looked at the 42's, and based on teh comments I made a comparison between lcd and plasma, and in every case I thought the lcd's looked like a much better picture than the plasmas.
What's the reason for plasma for 42+ advice?

I think it's just general advice with regards contrast ratio that people have given, maybe something to do with larger LCDs having bigger backlights. I dunno.
Best to go with whatever you feel looks best anyways :)
the scanning backlight on the ambilight screens is supposed to be what makes it so good.
