Everywhere I look I see empty Hallam Uni buildings... what is happening to Sheaf and Dyson house near the station, they have been empty for ages now. Also the halls of residence (Ballard) near Ranmoor, what are they planning to do with all the empty buildings? :?

Sheaf and (I think) Dyson buildings are being demolished as part of the revamp of Midland Station. I know this seems wasteful as they're useable buildings (ditto the Town Hall) but at least it'll serve as lesson in where to build big buildings. Such a shame the council hasn't learnt this lesson and is still going ahead with it's Peace Gardens Hotel...

The NCPM building is also Hallam owned now - it's going to be their new union to replace the NMB which is ... being demolished as part of the revamp of Midland Station. Someone in the council's Compulsory Purchase Order Department has been working overtime (!)

I don't think that Sheaf and Dyson house were ever owned by Hallam - they leased them.

The NMB is being demolished and a new building will replace it to house the School of Cultural Studies which is moving from the Psalter Lane Campus.

It's all tied in with a plan to increase air traffic in and out of Sheffield - they're planning on moving the airport to the Dyson House (etc.) sites. The reasoning is that, if the airport is more visible, it'll be used more. The current station concourse will serve both the station and airport and they're planning to build a control tower between the Town Hall and the Winter Gardens. If everything goes to plan and traffic increases sufficiently there is a plan to remodel Matalan and a stretch of the Parkway as Sheffield Central Airport Terminal 2.

Typical council wasting money again, Arts Tower is begging for a new purpose and is high enough

That's just silly. Have you ever been to the top floor of the Arts Tower? There aren't any windows... How are the ATCs going to see the planes?

Latest news is that they are going to offshore ATC to India. If they don't need to see planes, the theory goes, then they don't even need to be in the same country.
