I'm going to alton towers on monday woo hoo !!! :-)
I *MUST* go on the front seat for the rides.
How do you get on the front ?
Avoid Theme Parks like the plague at this time of year, unless you go before the kids break up... And even then I'd recommend you get there REALLY early so you can be at the front of the queues.

When you get there, go straight to the major rides on the opposite side of the park. You can often walk straight on because the crowds haven't got there yet. Then by the time you've worked your way back to the rides near the entrance at the end of the day, the queues there will have mostly gone.

ahhh I answered a different question. Umm to get in the front seat you could just get to the front of the queue then let people go past until the next roller coaster train comes along.
Where to sit on a roller coaster: (I'm in full work avoidance mode today)
THE FRONT: You get the full effect of seeing the ground hurtling towards you.
THE MIDDLE: A train's centre of gravity is in the middle. If you sit at the front then you have this odd sensation where you go over the edge of a big drop but you don't speed up for another twenty yards when the centre of gravity has gone over the edge. But in the middle you feel the ride as it was meant to be felt.
THE BACK: For that extra sickness feeling. The train speeds up when the centre of gravity goes over a slope. So when you reach the edge, you're going at full pelt and your hold on for dear life as your body leaves the seat.
Of course this only applies to proper roller coasters which are pulled up to the top by a big chain then left to gravity. Those ones that are fully electrically powered all the way around are imposters and never feel quite right IMHO.
Right... now I'm gonna go and do something productive..

Just tell the people you want to go on the front. They usually let you wait for the next turn.

I *think* there are seperate ques to get on the front seats.
After queueing for a couple of hours I'd just be glad to get a seat anywhere.
Just to make you envious though......
Last October we had our annual company conference at Alton Towers. We had exclusive use of the park for a couple of hours and I went on all the rides several times with no queueing (except for Nemesis which was out of action). Oblivion was great and second to that was Air. I felt like a 42 year old kid :)
Nemesis and Air have seperate queues for the front seats.
garrence: the middle is the most boring place to be lol, no point of referance usually and crapper forces than the front (by your brain) and back (whip effect)
I just got back from Alton Towers (my first time ever).
Gobsmacked ... the best £15 I have ever spent !!!!
It was such a lovely gorgeous sunny day ... and the park was pretty much deserted.
We got to the park @ 9.30 and by 10.10 had been on nemesis twice (once at the front) ... virtually no que ... just walked straight on !!!
Longest que we did I think was 30 mins for air (and that was only cos it broke down twice).
In total ... I did:
Nemesis - 5 goes (3 at the front).
Air - 3 goes (1 at the front).
Corkscrew - 2 goes (both at the front).
Runaway Train - 3 goes.
Oblivion - 1 go.
Black Hole - 1 go.
Spinning Swings - 1 go.
River Rapids - 1 go.
17 quality rides in total ... that's less that a quid a ride !!!
Totally fantastic day out :p
This week will be really really quiet, as will next week.
That has to be the way to do it though don't you think RPG ?
Go in low season ... when the kiddies are all in school !! ... and probably on a monday ....
I can't understand it though ... cos it was a fantastic sunny day ... and there was hardly anyone there.
What do you think ? Best days to go ?
Opening weekend, practically dead then lol.
Anytime which isnt a holiday, also dead. and if you must go on holidays go on a saturday cos people always think it'll be chocka and it generally isnt
