View Full Version : Slummin' - New GC1 Night
Emilychee 10-06-2004, 09:16 New night on Saturdays at Gatecrasher....Saw it adverised in Exposed magazine. Reckon its a bit of a "Bed spin-off" night.
Sandy Riviera is on this Sat, and its cheaper than Bed aswell! It think its something like £6 before 11 then £8 after (correct me if im wrong). Oh yeah its over 21s.

mr.blaze 10-06-2004, 14:20 YAY:D This looks much better than previous Saturdays at GC1.
Emilychee 10-06-2004, 15:18 Yeah, hope its good. Might have to pop down when I get some money!
mimicraze 10-06-2004, 15:39 its sh it that its over 21s, bit unfair on me, i love that scene n i cant go. oh well........have to see what i can do ;)
Emilychee 10-06-2004, 16:08 I was 21 a couple of weeks ago. Never tried getting in an over 21s before. Well I tried once when i was about 16, but i didnt know it was an over 21s... I was asked my age, i said (in my best cocky grown up voice) "Im 19"..... very embarrassing
I reckon if you look old enough and arent with people who look really young then you should be fine.
mr craig 10-06-2004, 16:12 Does look like its going to be a good night. Be nice to get back to GC1 soon, havent been in ages.
mimicraze 10-06-2004, 16:16 yeh im 19 nxt week, do look older tho so not too worried bout it, looks like its gonna b a good un
Emilychee 10-06-2004, 16:24 Ive only been once since it reopened, went to Hed Kandi, but it was absolutly RAMMED. Couldnt move at all.
mr.blaze 11-06-2004, 11:56 Hed Kandi rocks but I think it's a little too well known now. Shame it was packed when you went :(
Emilychee 11-06-2004, 12:03 I couldnt get over how packed it was!! went up to the old Plasma Lounge and it mustve took us nearly 10 mins to get to the other side of the bar.
Im only small so people didnt seem to notice that i wanted to get past!
welchiewelch 11-06-2004, 14:16 Not saying this cos I do a saturday and it's competition or anything but that idea looks like the biggest pile of elitist-ooh-will-i-get-in-if-i-dont-look-the-same-as-every-other-ponce- crap i've seen for a long time. Oooh it's soooo exclusive.....table service, girls in cages or some other rubbish. Strictly for the not very advanced or interesting human form.
So in other words, I won't be going.
Sandy Rivera has done some dope tracks tho' !!! I'll give em that.
i don't mind an 'elitist' door policy as you put it, as it keeps out the burberry brigade and burberry affiliated sympathisers i.e ben sherman, medallion man etc plus me mate Ian does the door :D

I agree
mr.blaze 11-06-2004, 14:42 bah they never let me in j/k
welchiewelch 11-06-2004, 14:50 But surely it's called Slummin' so they want people who live in slummy areas in ? Or is it some hilariousssss post-ironic statement maaaan.
It's a bit of a myth that you need a door policy to have a good crowd unless your venue is selling extra cheap booze so people come for that. If anything I think it contributes to a bad atmosphere as it gets full of someone's idea of decent people. Or clones.
Loads of decent nights in Sheff haven't bothered with that because their music, vibe and attitude has meant that any troublemakers wearing whateva either join in or leggit.....
Style o'er content.
Yeah I'm going to check it out, but purely to check out the god that is rivera.
The hardcore Bed people are still going across the road to hustle at zero though, even if it is just once a month.
i was there on bank holiday just gone and it was just a wicked atmosphere. audiowhores were on (there only seemed to be one of them though!).
Ive tried pin up which is cool but a different vibe altogether.
GC/Bed are just realising that when they closed Bed all the people that are in to house music didnt just vanish.
Now they want them back again.
Bit like dropping a girl and then wanting her back just cause all your mates want to take her out.
How many weeks before they decide house is not really working and stick Trevor Nelson or Steve Sutherland behind the decks on a Saturday night?
haaaa........considering rnb is in the 2nd room i bet you wont be waiting soon quality.....lololol

Count yourself lucky you didnt get in!
Went to slummin last night, not exactly as good as i was expecting. Sandy Rivera was a no show, appartently they wouldnt let him in the country, lol. It was just like any other night at GC1,i was pretty disapointed really. I had a can of Red Strip in there, £3.40!!!   :nono:
Snakey_B 13-06-2004, 13:30 We tryed our luck to get in but failed. . . .ended up in spearmints!!
penelope 13-06-2004, 15:15 i wouldnt mind goin to check it out but sounds bit expensive to me. They're supposed to be on 'face control' on the door.

We managed to get some que jump passes from the revo, very handy. The bouncers there always seem to be on some kinda power trip, its always been the same,if your face doesnt fit your not getting in,saw quite a few people getting turned away. The drinks in there are expensive and they dont seem to have any drinks promotions on like they used to. I think Red Stripe used to be £1.50 a can on a saturday.
Still had a good time in there, but that was down to who i was with more than the night itself.:)

i worked there for 2 years (1999-2001) but can't ever remember red stripe being £1.50 a can! it's ALWAYS been a rip off on a saturday night :)
no idea what it was like pre-gatecrasher days
genesiscouch 14-06-2004, 14:44 Didn't go...but thought the posters and concept were great :D Love it
Emilychee 15-06-2004, 09:41 My mate went on saturday, said it was great. But pricey drinks though. But the entrance fee is cheaper than what Bed used to be.

Yeah, everyone at HUSTLE towers thought the whole concept was wicked...but as they had ripped off our 'look' i guess we would. We do take it as a compliment though.
I went last saturday - wasn't anything special me and my mate left after an hour
