Does anyone know of a good second-hand CD trader in Sheffield. I know the one at Moorfoot on Saturday mornings but they have a very poor selection of classical stuff.

Or even a good source on-line ?

Thanks

Amazon sell second hand CDs alongside their new ones. I'd certainly look on ebay - best place for other people's unwanted stuff...they have a classical section there.

I'll also recommend Record Collector in Broomhill. A treasure trove but not sure about it's classical section.

THREAD PRUNED

Discussion of illegal file sharing is against the T&C's.

neeeeeeek, mimicraze & J-Blaze if you want to argue like children by passing insults, padding and generally acting like children I suggest you do it elsewhere.

I was going to close this and forget about it, but instead I took the time out of my revision to tidy up YOUR mess. I dont wanna see anymore arguing on this thread or it will be closed.

*cough* Downloading is illegal *cough*

Downloading is not illegal?
ok, ok i know your refering to music files, and yes your right it is illegal to download them, or so they say so.
but do you know anyone who as acctually been charged for it, im not talking about your 'illegal copy' market stalls where a chap has all the latest DVD, Music and Games, ect.
im reffering to 'Joe Public'.
i wouldent think that the music industry has any plans to start prossicuting the public for obvious reasons.

copying software and music is not a new phenomenon, cassette recorders\ video recorders have been arround for years.
it is only in the last 5-10 years that the music industery have 'spat out there dummys' because 'Joe Public' refuses to pay the extortionate prices they have set.
i know there is production costs/advertising/delivery/wages ect
all to come from the sales of the CD's, and unfortunately the actual artist who has done all the hard work, dont get the fair share they deserve.

but i belive that if the cost of a CD's was fair, people would go out and buy it instead of copying/downloading.
i think a fair price for a new album should be £7 - £9 and the cost of a CD single should be £2 - £3 each.

shouldent the music industry target the Hardware manufactures who make 'Media Recorders' that seem to be doing there industry an in'justice?
oh i forgot, Sony is a distributer or CD's and they make recorders?
Dohh'

PS:
do you thing the ZX Spectrum/Commadore Amiga/Playstation/X-Box, ect, would have all sold as well as they did, if it wasent for being able to copy the software?

i have had various game consoles and the first question i ask before i purchase is 'can it be chipped to play 'Backup-Copys'?
after all, i have played a load of games and 90% have been chit, and i would have been very distressed if i had actually gone out and paid the retail price for said games.

i do know what is right and what is wrong, and 'theft' is wrong, so when the big companys start to be fair, and stop robbing people of there hard earned cash, i think people will then start to be more fair and stop ripping off the big companys.

Sory for the longish post, now back on to the subject:

www.htfr.com based in Birmingham, may be able to help and also Hillsbourgh Records have a lot of second hand records, you could phone them to see if they also have a second hand CD section?

saying 'OK?' is not arguing! Don't get me involved in the 'blah' affair. If I was a mod I would have deleted the messages!

Thanks for the pointers, the shop in Broomhill looks promising. I have had used CDs via Amazon but the P&P is the same as buying new..~£1.70 each CD even from the same supplier and multiple CD order :o

Ebay might be useful but the Royal Mail make it a very hit and miss source for anything these days.

Buying on-line is ok if you know exactly what you want but you can't beat the feeling of walking into a record or book shop and just browsing and discovering things that normally wouldn't cross your mind.

Not sure about that. You can only discover up to the limits of the shop's stock, which will be a fraction of a good online store's.

I've discovered lots of bands through Amazon's 'People who bought this also bought..' feature, and their 'customers lists' section can also lead you to very interesting places. Also, unlike a record shop you can very quickly listen to snippets of any interesting albums you come across. I like a good browse in a shop I admit, but online's best 95% of the time.

Just come back from Record Collector in Broomhill. They have about 200-300 SH classical CD's from around £2 upwards. They also have "20% off" sale on them.

It sounds like it might be worth you looking in Rare and Racy on Devonshire Green, they have much more classical music then Record Collector.

GB
Record Collector is at 233 Fullwood Rd, opposite the parking lay-by where Somerfield is. There's a pub on the corner but I can't remember the name.

Col
PS. I have no connection to Record Collector but I do try to use the great independent shops in Broomhill. There's even a little shoe shop that sells mens shoes that are "Made in England". You won't find that in many places.

I once had a pair of 'English' made shoes...bought in a sale in Singapore for a tenner, - they were like soft leather foot gloves.

When they eventually wore out I wrote to ask Barkers if they could make me another pair, - I had the 'Last Number' and some other numbers etc.

Yes I could have another pair but they would cost me £150 !! (This would be around 1970).

Barkers told me the original pair had been hand-made for some wealthy oriental gentleman who had unfortunately died before he could collect them from the shop in Singapore.

Thanks for the directions to Record Collector. :)
